Can't go on TGMR anymore :(

Oh okay. good deal....the girl from the Exorcist still gives me nightmares and I cannot erase those images from my head. Wanted to make sure my kiddos were not going to have to endure that lol.
So you really want to teach your kids all about irrational fears? Seems like you wouldn't want that for them. But, it's your business, just seems wrong to me.

I used to love the Great Movie Ride, but it had been a while since we were there last and the latest update now includes Tubular Bells, the theme from The Exorcist. The hair stood up on my arms and back of my neck and I had some trouble falling asleep that night. (I'm a weenie, I know).

I don't think I can go back in and hear that again which is sad because I absolutely love the Wizard of Oz portion. :(
If you just force yourself to listen to the song over and over again it will wear off. Face those irrational fears!!!

Ughh! I totally understand! That movie is seriously one of my biggest fears - I am such a big baby when it comes to anything that has to do with that movie. I can't even type the title name lol that's how bad it is!! Do they show her in the montage clips at the end?? I'll still ride it, as I love TGMR.. but oh my goodness that movie has haunted me for YEARS! :scared1:

Oh and I have never been to HHN's at Universal, but when I heard that they were doing a house with "that movie" I literally wanted to cry, because now I will never go as long as that is there! Haha!!! I could never do that walk through.. EVER! :rotfl:

The Exorcist is not an image just the music. Again you can watch it on YouTube

Thanks! The music definitely does not bother me, that I can deal with. Wondering if the montage had changed when I went in November, because I don't remember the music at all in the montage, but I do remember it being different than before. I probably didn't even notice it lol.

I grew up in the 70s and that song was on the radio often. I'm going to be 50 soon so I dont think it's going to wear off. Poltergeist I can handle, Chainsaw I can handle, Alien I can handle just not that movie or the theme for some reason. Even the theme from Halloween doesn't get me like that.

But even scarier than that was the line going for TSMM when they let the ropes drop after the fireworks. Yikes!

I have a suggestion- do you happen to have a local music store? They may sell earplugs. You could put them in for the first half of it, and take them out after the song plays for a bit.

Not really sure how you came to that conclusion from what I said but I can assure you my comment was just a lighthearted one and not meant to classify my entire realm of parenting. And just so you know I don't believe my lack of wanting to expose my kids to an image of a demon possessed child shouting profanities and spewing pea soup vomit means that I am teaching them to fear irrational things. I am sorry if that is the conclusion you came to from my comment :goodvibes

Tough through it don't let one minor thing ruin your ride experience - it's an iconic movie and deserves a place in the montage.

I can't imagine linking such a great piece of music with something so scary so strongly that you can't listen to it.

Maybe you need to find a nicer link for it. See if you can catch footage from the London 2012 Olympic Opening Ceremony. It was used beautifully there for our tribute to the NHS. Much nicer thing to link it to! And cute children jumping and dancing might make it less scary for you.

My Sister love horror movies but she hide her face and Ask to me to watch wath is going on. I don't afraid since childhoud because i have too much fun see how she can handle it when i say you can watch now, it's finish (but is not lol!)

I associate just about every moment in my life with a piece of music.

London Olympics was the best opening and closing ceremonies I have ever seen! But I did get creeped out with that part and was disturbed enough to turn the sound down for a few seconds.

I am going to try it again for Septembers trip (I'll go on early so the rest of the day is in between that and bedtime). Hopefully I can lick this thing.

NOooooo LOL. That section of the opening ceremonies was absolutely bizarre and creepy.

As for having a visceral reaction to music like the OP has...the theme music Jaws anyone?

I loooove Tubular Bells. In my younger days I'd shove that cassette ( yeah, I'm THAT old) in the player, put on headphones, and crank up the volume any time I needed to zone out and relax for a while. Totally forgot that it was in the movie. Look forward to hearing it again on our next trip.

OK, but that is not the way you put it across. To me it just seemed like you were afraid of it and felt that you should protect your kids from that fear. If it's to shield them from useless gore and unlikely and offensive content then you are OK in my eyes. Sorry, if I misunderstood your comment.

Interesting trivia: The first time I ever watched Jaws was when our English teacher put it on, of all of the things we could have watched. When Jaws claimed his first victim I screamed and ran out of the classroom. Still love the movie.

My older sister was so traumatized by Jaws that she refuses to swim in the ocean or any water she can't see through...like a lake...or a pool at night...and has been known to have panic attacks in the bathtub if she closes her eyes or goes underwater. I'm not kidding. She's 43 and thinks there might be a shark in the pool or bathtub.

Good to know only the ending montage has chanced. I've never seen Exorcist so the music won't disturb me (but a scene would). Music can be deeply psychological on an emotional level so I fully understand OP's freaking out hearing it, and I do hope they can overcome or at least suppress the fear. Trying the London Olympic's opening ceremonies is a great suggestion! I absolutely freaked out at the giant Voldemort and the Shire.
....wait a minute. Is THAT Tubular Bells? When the army of Mary Poppins' are attacking the giant Voldemort?? Start humming "Spoon Full of Sugar" or "Chim Chiminee" when that part comes up in the montage!

I concur with the poster who said Pinocchio was traumatizing. We found out I had been suppressing the memory of Pleasure Island when it showed up in a Youtube video. Hearing Lampwick sent me into the fetal position singing "Small World" just to stop hearing it. I can't be right on the street for the MSEP parade now that they've added the dancing donkeys. And here I thought the Pink Elephants scared me most as a kid.
