FLORENCE, Ky. - A 13-year-old boy was charged with threatening President Bush — who is scheduled to travel to nearby Cincinnati next week — in two e-mails sent to the mayor, police said.

Investigators did not find anything in a search of the boy's home to make them think he was planning to carry out the alleged threats, police Capt. Linny Cloyd said.

The teen was in the custody of his mother at their home Tuesday. He faces one felony count of making a terroristic threat and is to appear in Boone County Family Court within two weeks.

Cloyd and Whalen refused to release the e-mails or give details of the threats.

Cloyd went to the teen's home Monday night with agents from the FBI and Secret Service. He said the boy's parents consented to the search, during which a computer was seized.

If Osama was threatening the President via emails - I'm sure he would have been caught by now too. He hide's in caves with the rats though.

I don't know which to be sadder about. The kid who made threats against the president :sad2: or the fact that they are charging a 13 year old with a felony in what was likely a very misguided attempt at a prank (especially since they found nothing that would convey to them that he could carry out his threats...). :sad2:

Oh for goodness' sake!

I'm sure that Bush, just like many other leaders, receives a TONNE of threats every day! To waste time and money on them is just plain nuts.

On the other hand, I'll bet that the kid won't re-offend :p

As for Osama, well, the last I heard was that he was skulking on the Afghan borders festering away. I hope they catch him soon.

[EDIT]: Didn't mean to say that we shouldn't analyse the threats received by Pres. Bush and spend time and money in making sure that there is no actual threat, meant to specify taking the prank threats so seriously.

There's no such thing as a misguided attempt at a prank when it involves threats to the President. Any President.

Nobody thought the Columbine killers were a threat either, until they actually carried out those threats. Then, in hidesight it all looks so crystal clear. It's funny how that always seems to be the case. :rolleyes

Well, they gotta do something. If the kid brags to his friends, then they try it, and so on and so on. Can't be running after all the pranksters.

...I hope they drop (or at least lower) the charges, though.

just an update from yesterday.............

FLORENCE, Ky. (AP) -- A 13-year-old boy who authorities originally said threatened President Bush actually made the threat against a school, not the president, police said.

Police Capt. Linny Cloyd said Tuesday that the teen was being investigated for making threats against Bush, the city of Florence and a school in e-mails sent to the mayor. Bush is scheduled to travel to nearby Cincinnati next week.

On Wednesday, Cloyd told the Cincinnati Enquirer the student did not make a direct threat against Bush. Instead, the teen is charged with terroristic threatening for the alleged threat against the school, Cloyd said Wednesday.

The teen remains in custody of his mother in Florence.

The investigation began after Mayor Diane Whalen received an anonymous e-mail containing the alleged threats, Cloyd said. A second e-mail was also sent to Whalen, he said.

.....Interesting that a threat against a public school would bring in the FBI and Secret Service...(??).

Anybody seen "V for Vendetta"..?
