We are planning our first trip to Disney World for this Sept/Oct (date hasn't been finalized yet). We're meeting up with my husband's family who will be staying at a Timeshare. I've been doing lots of research and have found many recommendations, but get conflicting ones! And I just can't decide where to stay.

We are military so we can get a discount at most places. We're considering Shades of Green, although the thought of staying there during remodeling doesn't appeal to me all that much. But the rooms are so large (at least from what I've heard) and the price good that I don't know if I can pass up the deal.

Holiday Inn Family Suites sounds like a wonderful place to stay, but so many people say we should stay on site.

I've also looked at some of the other Disney Resorts. The Value resorts seem to be best for kids (things to do and see, decorations, food, etc), but the rooms seem so small. We have 2 boys who will be 2 and 4 when we go and a baby on the way who will be 4 months.

Not really sure if the next ones up are really worth the extra price?

So please help!! I just can't decide. We should have our final dates by middle of February and we'll be staying at least 5-6 nights.

TIA!

Hi, my family is military too, we had reservations for SOG from Feb. 29 to March 7 because SOG is not open they are putting us up in the Contemporary for the same price except we have to pay the tax on the room. I would say if you went to SOG it would be open by then. They are still saying they will be open in March. If you stayed at SOG it would be like staying in a brand new hotel. I am trying to get my DH to go back so we can stay at the new SOG. Trust me you will not be staying in a hotel they are remolding. You can see the progress they are making by going to SOG.org. Hope this helped.

yes yes yes. stay with disney.

If youre budget minded then get a cabin at Ft Wilderness. AAA offers a 25% discount. It sleeps 6 (plus the baby in a crib). There are bunkbeds and a double bed in the bedroom and another double murphy bed in the living room. Theres also a full kitchen, so you can offset the cost by dining in.

When we took the baby, we went back to the room (we stayed at OKW) had lunch and let him nap. Being able to close the door on sleeping kids is priceless.

The rooms in the Value resorts are no smaller than a regular hotel room anywhere else. We always stay at the ASMo and have ever since the kids were small (they are teens now). We figure, why spend alot of $$ for a room when all we use it for is to sleep and shower ! the added benefit is that we never have to pinch pennies anywhere else on the trip and that is more than worth it.
Agree with the other poster--STAY ON SITE. It is something special to step into Disney from minute one and not step out until you leave.

Have Fun. We'll be back in June!!

I agree stay on site!!! Take SOG, I don't think you'll be disappointed. As others have posted, nothing like being "in" the magic 24-7. Also, it's sooo much easier to go back to the hotel for naps and relaxation when your onsite. Then, when everyone's refreshed, head out again for dinner. We've taken our kids every year (DS is almost 5, DD is 20mo) and it's been no problem to go back out at night and see the night time parades, ect. DD loved Spectromagic last year, clapping, laughing and pointing at all the floats and characters.
