I signed up for the Southwest card and got the 50,000 points... we're planning on going to Disney in May (staying offsite) and we were going to drive. The problem is, my mother in law is coming with and she has a condition where she can't sit for too long. I'm afraid we'll be stopping every few hours and make horrible time. She also loves to stop for roadside stands (such as peaches in Georgia, etc.) The driving schedule is tight since DH is not willing to leave the night before. I think flying would be a lot less stressful for everyone and cheaper in the long run BUT MIL has never flown and I'm also not a huge fan. We were planning on loading our van full of drinks and snacks for the trip and if we fly, we can't do that either... mmm... what to do....

I know your DH said he didn't want to leave the night before, but I would really think about it.

What if you were able to come home and take a nap and then leave at like 10:pm ? I think that would really help with the stopping since we'll they'll all be sleeping.

We always drive at night.

Why did you sign up for an airline credit card when you're a reluctant flier? There are so many co-branded credit cards out there that do not charge an annual fee. I'm curious as to why you would pay an annual fee for a card whose rewards are not something you would use. :confused3

But flying vs. driving is just a matter of personal choice. Some people find air travel to be extremely stressful, get nervous with all of the TSA requirements and prefer to take their time arriving at their destination. You couldn't pay me enough to drive to Florida. But I'm one of those people who isn't intimidated by airports.

I have flown and will do it but I'd personally prefer to drive. In this case though, I'm thinking it would be a LOT less stressful to just fly (especially being stuck with my MIL in the van for 2 days straight - lol). If we don't use the free airfare for this trip, I'll be going with my daughter the following year for a mother daughter trip and could use it up then.
