Can't decide if I should ride GOTG

I never rode TOT. I love BTMRR and Space Mountain, but Expedition Everest at Animal Kingdom is a little too intense.

It's more the fear of being enclosed and getting panicked that is stopping me from riding GOTG. (I take a Xanax to fly) Family keeps trying to talk me into it because they rode it yesterday and said it was amazing.

Thoughts?

Oh, and I did watch the video posted here of the reporter and still can't decide.

More intense but less scary. The car doesn't stop moving so it's more intense, but the music and the funny antics make it much more fun and less scary. If you don't like sudden drops you will not like it. If it's claustrophobia, I would compare it to an intense version of star tours. You're definitely in a box and it moves a lot.

I have trouble with claustrophobia ... I don't take Xanax when I fly but I do always get a window seat because of it. And it really bugs me on planes when everybody is standing up waiting to get out all huddled around me because it feels so enclosed. Elevators sometimes bother me as well.

However -- I don't have a problem on ToT (haven't ridden GOtG yet). I think there are a couple of reasons for it. Even though you're enclosed, there's still plenty of space around you (both over your head and as you're looking out) so it's not a crowded feeling. And there's so much going on that it really distracts you from feeling enclosed. Also, every time you stop the doors open up to a new vista, giving the feeling that's it's not actually enclosed.

OTOH, I hated Nemo ... that REALLY feels enclosed and you're sandwiched in there like sardines.

I can't do Space but can do the others you mentioned. I rode Expedition Everest a couple of times because my kids wanted me to, but the going backwards part ... didn't really like that too much, too intense as you said. That ride isn't on my list of favorites.

To lessen the intensity on GOtG, I suggest you make a point to really watch what's going on around you so it distracts you ... and fasten your seatbelt as tightly as you can. If you don't get it really tight, you will lift up off your seat just a little as you go down. Not actually dangerous, but it might help if you're worried about it. And sit beside your husband so you can hang on to him as well, LOL!

I get claustrophobia, even walking outside at Disneyland when it is packed. I didn't get claustrophobia on the ride. It is much more entertaining than the older version. If you've watched both movies, you can get into the story line. If you like the music, you can focus on that. I love the music and personally sing and dance in my seat to the music. The ride didn't freak me out at all. However, other people on the ride screamed. Some screamed the entire time. When the ride drops, you are out of your seat for a second (seatbelt holds you in). I thought it was awesome and it felt like free falling to me. The reporter was overly dramatic for what the ride is. If you watch the Tom and MaryJo video, you'll see isn't something that warrants constant screaming. Other people screaming was the only thing that bothered me about the ride.

Thank you all for your replies. I finally got the courage to do it today, after having use the chicken exits the past two times that I tried it, LOL. I am so glad that I did it. It really, really was a lot of fun and I can't wait to do it again!!

I am glad you tried it. You just have to remember that Disney wont create a ride that kids can't go on and safety is their #1 priority. It just goes to show that if you don't try something, you will never know if you will like it or not :)
