I broke my Rebel XS and now need some help! I am very novice with my camera, I got my first DSLR about 18 months ago... the EOS Rebel XS. LOVED it. I dropped it and broke it a few weeks ago (UGH). I sent it off to Canon and they want over $300 to fix it - and haven't been able to tell me what is wrong with it. I have decided that for that kind of money, I'd rather just replace it... but I'm finding that you can't buy the XS anymore. I am looking into the T3.... I want something similiar to what I had... anyone have any words of wisdom? I'm just a mom who uses my camera for fun and scrapbooking my kids events/lives... and of course, taking pics at Disney!

Call Canon and ask about their loyalty program. It will allow you to trade in your broken camera for a discount on your purchase. It might help you save some cash.


If you loved the XS then the T3 would be the logical replacement for it. You'll find the basic operation of the camera will be pretty much the same (I don't think they changed the button layout much at all between the two). And you will gain an increased ISO range that has less noise.

I wouldn't be afraid of a factory refurbished camera because they install new parts and do the latest upgrades. I have recommended this service to several Canon shooters and all had positive experiences. They usually will give you several choices of cameras at varying costs and you get to choose.

Another hint for the Loyalty Program, you only need to turn in the body of the camera. Keep the lens, keep the battery, keep the charger, keep the memory card. If they don't work with the new camera you purchase, you may be able to make a few bucks for them on E-Bay.

When you're ready to buy, call (866) 443-8002 and select option "2" for the CLP. This is the only way to purchase - you can't do it online.

I'll agree with the other posters, look at the 'loyalty' program for the better deals, -- and don't get the T3, instead get something with more features like the older T2i, T3i, 60D, etc.

Thanks all! I liked the T3 because it's similar to what I had and really liked.... I don't really need all the advanced features, or know how to use them... but I will consider it.

you may never use the advanced features but the pricing on the T2i (550D), T3i (600D), etc. make those models a much better deal. Especially if you ever plan to shoot sports or use the video function
