Canon S2

Actually, I have a s1 IS and although it is point and shoot, with the proper adapter, you can put on additional lenses. Check out Cannons website, they have them for sale.

Good luck

Sorry, I am still new to this and I thought I was being smart, I should know better ;)

Hey all,

I'm considering buying this camera, everything I have read sounds like it's an awesome camera. Espically for the price range!

I would like to see some shots taken with this camera.

Specifically:

1. Night time shot with tripod
2. Night time shot without tripod
3. A shot, day or night, at full 12x optical zoom
4. A shot, day or night, with no zoom

for the nighttime shots, something I'd really like to see is Spectomagic. We came back from our trip in feb, took about 150 pics with my cheap kodak digi camera, and every single one turned out blury. In fact, of all nighttime shots I took around the parks/DTD/Pop century, only 3 of them turned out even close to being decent, they still were blury, but not too bad.

The camera I have now takes decent day shots, but doesn't take night shots very well at all no matter what settings I used.

Thanks in advance! :)

I have had the camera for about two months now, and am pretty much a novice at anything other than point and shoot - so I have not done much of anything but AUTO. I have not had the opportunity to shoot fireworks or Spectromagic - I hope to this upcoming weekend, but until it happens, I never count on it!!! I really haven't taken any nighttime photos at Disney with the camera

I have two pics, that I used zoom on - not sure if it was full, but the first photo is of the 50th Anniversary "thing" on the castle taken from the flag pole on Main Street.

wow... that pic from the flag pole is great! I've never seen a zoom bigger then a 3x in action, so I had no idea how far it would go!

I'm pretty much a novice too... took a photo class in high school about 10 years ago... but don't remember much from it... so I'd imagine i'll be on AUTO for awhile too! :P

and with 12x zoom, you'll really need the IS capability.

Mak, long time no see, have you got the package?

also, a quick question, for night shots of the parade... is it better to use the flash, or not? I assume not, but i dunno...

I do not because it seems to show too much detail. You see all of the mesh and structure of the floats with a flash and the lights look dim if you are close. If you are farther away, the flash is not enough and it gets underexposed. Try to practice on something similar before your trip to get the desired results from your camera.

I have had the best results from my S1 in manual mode and I am sure that the IS had something to do with that.

For Spectro, it's very tricky, the best is to use ISO 3200 with f/2.8 (or faster) lens using dSLR and no flash.

I took these at Disney in November with my S2 IS. http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/ldibo2002/album?.dir=/62c4&.src=ph&.tok=phuofnEB2X2veFwF . The ones of Spectro and fireworks I used Night mode, no flash, handheld as I did not have a tripod with me. The ones of Tarzan Rocks I was in the upper section using the zoom. There are also some I took of Fireworks using the Fireworks setting here http://www.picturetrail.com/gallery/view?p=999&gid=7706042&uid=554131 . I did not use a tripod for these either but did have it sitting on top of something. HTH

Hi,

I just returned from my big trip and I"m in the process of uploading photos I took with my S2 IS. Check out my member gallery (VRodKen). The only changes I've made are cropping related (except the one palm tree pic, had a little digital fun with that). Sorry, no tripod. But with the IS, I hardly ever needed it!

My only 2 complaints:

1) For some reason, I found it hard to keep my horizon level. Could be old age.

2) At full wide angle (without adapter), I got distortion on straight lines near the edges of my photos. Pincushion effect.

Buy a FAST card. I recommend the 1GB Sandisk Ultra II. You can find it under $100 at Best Buy. (The S2 uses the SD Cards.)

I LOVE this camera and would recommend it to anyone.

Ken

They also had the 1GB Ultra II SD card on sale at the Circuit City website. I purchased that with my new Canon camera that I got yesterday.

Yes, this is the problem with any zoom lens, especially superzooms. Even on my boss' 24-105 f/4L IS lens (4.375x zoom) pincushion and barrel effects can clearly be seen.

I just got this in my email through Dell. I tried it and it does work. Happy shopping!
