I'm going on a candy cane day this year,

Where do you get the wrist band for these and is it a mad rush to get them/lots of competition?
Do they give them out free?

Look under Candy Cane Info -- HERE. A couple of the links might help (such as to the Disney Parks Authentic page and a couple of the Food Blogs) to explain the process, price, etc.

This is a recent News piece from The DIS, which you may have already seen -- HERE.

Essentially you have to make a mad dash over to the Candy Palace or Trolley Treats as soon as the park opens, wait in line and get a wristband. Then you come back at a designated time and get your candy cane.

They are not free. You have to pay at least $12.99 (maybe more this year).

When I was there last year the first Sunday and Monday of dec, I did not have to do a mad dash at all! We were entering DCA around rope drop that Mon. The CM's were standing outside Trolley Treats, wristbands in hand, just looking at everyone waiting for people to come get one. We actually passed them and doubled back when I realized what it was for!

I'm sure we probably got lucky since it was relatively slow, but just know it's not always crazy.

Last when we got our canes it wasn't the mad dash I was prepared for but I'd stay focused to be safe. They are truly the best candy canes ever and worth the price and planning. :thumbsup2

It's just as Sherry stated: you get your wrist band from a CM in front of either Trolley Treats or the Candy Palace. They'll tell what the hours are for your return to come back and buy/pick up your candy canes.

Last year was super easy but I'm thinking it was a fluke.

Is The Candy Palace right next door to Gibson Girl?

They will likely have started the first batch as the park opens. If this is your batch (the first 40 wristbands, I think), then you can watch them make your candy canes!

I, too, did not experience a "mad dash" or even a line. We just walked up, picked up our wristband! You pay when you come back and pick up your candy cane.

Everyone -- When I say "mad dash" I'm mainly trying to be funny, because of all of the stories and reports I have read about people running to the Candy Palace. I am not suggesting that people go stampeding over each other to get a giant candy cane that costs $13.

I am guessing that there was not much hoopla at Trolley Treats because a lot of people did not know that the canes were being made at Trolley Treats (not everyone follows these boards, nor do they regularly follow Disney news). So, Trolley Treats may be a safe zone of sorts.

However, if you walk too slowly and don't "dash" a little en route to Candy Palace, you may end up with a wait for a wrist band that looks like this (perlster took this photo of an actual morning line at Candy Palace):

:santa:

Just by sheer luck or circumstance, we got the wristbands 3 times last year. We weren't even looking for them.

We purchased 2 and on other days gave the 2 candy canes away to people in line not expecting them. They let the other people pay for them and be on their merry way. We did it twice.

Last year I DID have to run to get the wristband so it depends on what day you are there I suppose. We were there Dec 12th-ish and at Early Entry to DCA they are NOT giving them out - you have to wait until standard opening times.

We jogged from The Grand entrance over to Trolley Treats and there were about 20 others around us going also. By the time we wandered back over later the line was MASSIVE!

They are huge so think about getting a locker to put them in if you aren't staying onsite and don't want to drag them around all day. Also, we WERE staying on-site at The Grand and they wouldn't have them sent over like other items you purchase, we had to walk them back.

Totally fun to get though!

You RUN to Trolley Treats- which is actually on BV Street. Grab as many wristbands from the CM that they will allow you and either stay in line and try to watch them make them or come back later and get them. I believe they are $13 or $15. Delicious and large! Remember that when you are carting them around DL./DCA. We get a locker and put ours in if staying off-site. If you are staying on-site they will NOT have them sent over to your hotel like regularly purchased items.

Enjoy! :hyper:

Do not run...that is dangerous. You cannot "grab" the wristbands; the CMs will place a wristband on each person that is going to purchase a candy cane. You cannot get wristbands for people that are not there with you.

I would actually recommend trying to watch them make the Candy Canes when they're over in DL. The windows to the Candy Palace are bigger and it seemed easier to see inside.

Okay!!! I was slightly literal. You do not want to GRAB- they will calmly hand you one. And they will give you 2 if you ask nicely.
But you still SHOULD run (run-ish). Last year one day we casually wandered over and they were out for the day. Then 2 days later we jog/ran and made it in time.

I would not count on this. Last year they were very clear that it was one wristband per person in line and they put the wristband on your wrist.

Again, I still recommend against running. A better plan would be to get to the park pre-opening and get in line as soon as you get into the park. I've never ran and I've still managed to get a wristband when I've gone (both in DCA and DL).

One thing to remember is each wristband represents a candy cane so if you are a family of 5 and each of you takes a wristband, the assumption is you will be purchasing 5 candy canes at about $13 a piece. In most cases the families in line when we've been there usually asked for only 1 or 2 wristbands since that's how many candy canes they were planning to buy.

Can someone help - I can't visualize Trolley Treats. Is it the store on your left when you head left on Buena Vista St?

If you enter DCA at the Main Entrance, you'll be looking down Buena Vista Street. On the right side of the street the first store you'll see is Mortimer's Market where they sell fresh fruit. If you continue down the right side of the street you'll pass Julius Katz's, etc. At the corner at the far end of Buena Vista Street is Trolley Treats - in the window is a "big rock candy mountain" display. If you go past Trolley Treats, you'll see Clarabelle's Ice Cream Parlour and Starbucks (the Fiddler, Fifer & Prac Pig Cafe) around the corner on your right.
