Candy Cane Inn or Residence Inn Maingate?

Which of these would be better? I'll be getting two rooms. One for my mom and sister and the other for myself, husband, and two kids who are 5 and 2. The Candy Cane Inn is a little cheaper and closer but the Residence Inn includes buffet breakfast which my husband prefers over a continental. Basically I'm wondering which one would be nicer. We are not too picky as long as it's clean and somewhat quiet. My mom and sister however are more picky and prefer the nicer hotels. Any other suggestions? How are the rooms located with each of these hotels? Are the doors in an outside hallway or inside?

Any help would be great. We are planning on going the week of Thanksgiving.

Thanks!

We just came back from the CCI and highly recommend it. We've heard mixed things about it and prepared for the worst. We usually stay at a Hilton so we're a bit fussy.

The grounds were beautiful and the flowers smelled heavenly. We were on the ground floor by the pool and we didn't hear any noise. Maybe the cleaning trolley once in a while, but that was it. No noisy kids by the pool early/late.

The breakfast included cereals, a variety of bagels (pretty good and I'm from NY) and cream cheeses, donuts, muffins and fruit.

We walked it once, but we decided the buses ran so timely (just like NY-lol) we made good use of them.

There are 6 of us in our group and we have stayed at the RI numerous times. We all like the hot breakfast and the selection. Our room has always been clean, we like the free grocery shopping and the suite is very large. The rooms all have access to the outside. The place is more like townhouses. We will be staying there again in two weeks.

CCI rooms a little on the small size for a family of 4 IMO, but it does have beautifil grounds. With your young children you might be better placed at the CCI as it has its own dedicated shuttle I am not sure whether RI has one or not.

My Wife and I stayed at CCI in May and loved it. The grounds and room were very nice and clean. It's only about a 10 minute walk to the parks which was very nice. They also have shuttles every half hour. We will stay here again on our next visit. The rooms are big enough for a family with two children. We saw many families with kids while we stayed there.

Thank you for your responses. It seems like they are both nice hotels and each have their pluses. I like the bigger breakfast and room at RI but the shuttle and closeness to the park is nice at CCI. RI is only $10 more a night but since it includes the larger breakfast it seems worth it. However if we decide to use the shuttle instead of walk we'd have to pay for it and that would make it even more. Decisions, Decisions!

We just returned from two nights at CandyCane Inn followed by three nights at Disneyland Hotel. At WDW we always stay at Deluxe properties and on other trips usually choose 4-star hotels.

Overall we really liked Candy Cane. Yes, the hotel is obviously older but has been maintained nicely. As others have said, the grounds are lovely. The staff were very friendly. Breakfast was fine for the two days we were there. The pool is small, but it was never very crowded and we were there on the weekend. Directly across the street are a few takeout places (Subway, pizza, chinese, donuts). We had a first floor room way in the back of the hotel and it was very quiet.

The bus transportation was superb! Drivers were very nice and always on time.

I would not hesitate to stay at Candy Cane Inn again!

Appears that you can not make a bad choice, just depends on what is important. With 6 of us, we save on the bigger breakfast, it will hold us over til later in the afternoon. I like warm food and a large selection.

Good luck,
