CANDY BUFFET for my DD graduation party I NEED HELP..Please

I'm still working on stocking the buffet for DD's graduation party next month but I came up with another budget idea.

First of all, CVS has a bunch of candy on sale this week with ECB so I'll be making a stop there.

DD LOVED the sweet-tart candy pacifiers growing up. Every time we would go to the mall, that is what she would pick. My older DD worked at JoAnn Fabric and said that they had bags of this in their baby shower isle. So, we checked out the price there as well as Michaels and Hobby Lobby. Hobby Lobby is the cheapest ($2.49 for a large bag compared to $4.99 for the same size bag at Michaels). Hobby Lobby has a 40% off coupon on-line this week so I'll make a few trips there as well. It's only a few blocks from my house so it won't be a problem.

I also picked up a bunch of candy after Halloween at 90% off at Target. It's basically colored Pixie Stick sugar that they had in test tube type containers. I'm getting some empty sand art bracelets from Oriental Trading that come with funnels. Since the candy buffet is going to be outside (away from the house) we won't have to worry about the kids spilling when they make their own candy bracelets.

The hardest part is trying to keep this a secret from DD. I want a little extra surprise for her at her party.

I have a few pictures....sorry they arent very good but it is an idea...the pictures dont show as nice as it looked....ummmmm how do I add pictures:rolleyes1

I would love to see pictures but I have no idea how to add them. Maybe the tech board can help?

When is your DD's Grad party? Mine is the 21st of June can't wait to take pics to share!

I went to a local fudge shop today and got some blue raspberry and lemon salt water taffy and some flying saucers candies!!! And I also went to Walmart and added the sugar free option for a few ppl! So I think I'm done and all that's left is the set up! We'll see how it turns out Saturday!

I'm doing a candy buffet on the 21st also for my DD's grad. party, I will be happy to share some pics !

In case anyone is looking for something inexpensive to put the candy in, check your dollar stores, I found some pretty wired baskets lined with pastel colored celophane, also found some really cute decorations that i'm going to use for the table, just look around with a creative mind and you'll find tons of stuff !!

I found the swirly pops at Walmart. Thanks to everyone who mentioned it.

I bought clear cellophane bags for the candy buffet (DD's graduation). I am attaching a copy of the Dr. Suess poem "Oh, The Places You'll go"
Below the poem I wrote "Thank you for joining us as we celebrate (DD's name) "sweet" road to success.

Thank you also to the person who reminded us that we should also include sugar free items. There are at least 3 people that are coming to the party that are diabetic. I would not want them to feel left out.

I like this idea-may borrow it- how much of the poem are you using- it is fairly long

we won't have ours till July 12th...I want to see some pics to get more ideas. I think that I have enough candy and containers..hopefully. Target has their summer dishes on sale and I bought a couple of the plastic Margarita type glasses that look really cool!

YOu know I had never even heard of a candy buffett until I read this thread but now I am really looking forward to doing one for my Christmas Parties this year. I know that Lindt outlet store sells Christmas Candy very cheaply in the summer. Also, I got some high quality Hammond's Candy Canes(usually 3.00 ea) marked down to 25c each in the Stonewall Kitchen Outlet Store. I got a really nice white tin seperated silverware holder at William Senoma Outlet and I will put all the varieitys of candy canes in there and tie a red bow around it. I hope to make to use the CVS thing as well as take advantage of all the sales on candy between now and Christmas. The possibilites are endless and I cannot wait to make one.

I never heard of a candy buffet before either. I am really excited about it- my son isn't too thrilled- I think he will like it once it is done. I am going to make chocolate covered pretzel rods, chocolate covered strawberries for the table also. Just trying to decide on what kind of candy is hard.

I know so I went with there favorites like Tootsie rolls and pixie sticks, totsie pops and dum-dum pops, m&m's, hershey kisses, hershey hugs, smarties, salt water taffy, flying saucers also known as satellite wafers, Hershey Bars, Bubble gum balls, flavored twizzlers, graduation mints, graduation fortune cookies, graduation bubble gum coins and that may be it besides for the sugar free candy which is a mixture of choc candies and hard candies. I tried to stick to a color theme as much as possible but make it fun childhood candies and favorites! I purchased clear bags in the party section at walmart 20 per package for $1.37 or so. I also have yellow and blue and clear chinese take out containers but they seemed small so I got the bags as back up! The colors I tried to stick with were Light Blue and Yellow and white as these are the school colors along with black! I couldn't tell you what I spent I lost track because I purchased it at different times! LOL! :)

This is the version that I shortened to:

Oh, the Places You'll Go!

Congratulations! Today is your day.
You're off to Great Places! You're off and away!
You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes
You can steer yourself any direction you choose.
You're on your own. And you know what you know.
And YOU are the guy who'll decide where to go.
You'll look up and down streets. Look 'em over with care.
About some you will say, "I don't choose to go there."
With your head full of brains and your shoes full of feet,
you're too smart to go down any not-so-good street.
OH! THE PLACES YOU'LL GO!
You'll get mixed up, of course,
as you already know.
You'll get mixed up
with many strange birds as you go.
So be sure when you step.
Step with care and great tact
and remember that Life's
a Great Balancing Act.
Just never forget to be dexterous and deft.
And never mix up your right foot with your left.
And will you succeed? Yes! You will, indeed!
(98 and 3 / 4 percent guaranteed.)
KID, YOU'LL MOVE MOUNTAINS!
So...be your name Buxbaum or Bixby or Bray
or Mordecai Ali Van Allen O'Shea,
you're off to Great Places! Today is your day!
Your mountain is waiting.
So...get on your way!
---Dr. Seuss

I am going to get my candy from metrocandy. Their online prices seem good to me.

I wonder what their shipping costs are. All it said was that it is based on weight and shipping location. They do have a great variety.
