Candy artist in Japan what to do with creation?

That looks so neat- I think we'd enjoy watching her!
If we were chosen and got one- I'm sure I'd take a picture then the kids would eat it. LOL

When we were there in January my 8 y/o GD got a yellow tiger and I got a blue kangaroo (with a baby in its' pouch). We had been in line about 45 minutes and were next in line, when Miyuki decided to take a 45 minute break. I asked my GD what she wanted to do and she said "I want one of those and I don't care if I have to wait all day". An 8 y/o volunteering to wait :earseek: ? We sat right in front of the cart until she came back out. My GD's tiger lost a foot on the way home, but she still wanted it. I bought a couple of small clay flower pots, put some styrofoam in them and her's sits on her dresser, while mine is on my computer desk ( I'm looking at it right now). We left them sealed in the plastic bags thinking they might last longer if not exposed to air. So far they're fine. I'm going back in May and want to get one of her Eagles. I saw a lady with one and it was just perfect with spread out wings and clipped feathers. I still can't believe we waited 1 1/2 hours for a candy sculpture.

Dumb question, but are these only for children? We have been to WDW many, many times and we've never seen her! This June for sure!

During last year's Food and Wine Festival, I saw a chef from Bluezoo create an AMAZING sculpture out of "candy". Basically, it is a very pure sugar with maybe corn syrup in it. It is heated and worked into taffy-like ribbons, molded into what looks like glass, or even "blown" like real glass.

The chef said that heat is really not the issue in preserving it. It is humidity. He said he once had one of these sculptures in Las Vegas. It was really hot out, but since there was no humidity, the sculpture lasted a LONG time.

Keeping it at home would probably require the freezer. Unless you can put it in a display case with a strong dehumidifier in it. It is possible, I suppose.

No they are for adults too. I got in line about 10 minutes early and watched the drummers across the way and she came out and said she would start after the drummers. There was a woman in her early 40s who got a lion made, then a 12 year old girl from England who got a dragon, then I got my dog (I'm 23), and then there was a little girl after me who got a unicorn. She was really good about knowing who was there first and age didn't seem to matter! She is amazing.

Thanks Scoutsmom! I can't wait to look her up this time! That's whats great about WDW, there's always more to see no matter how many times you've been there!

She'll do them for adults too. I was there in October with one of my best friends and I was surprised that she made them for both of us. I got a lion and I think he got a panda. She is just awesome and it's amazing how she can remember who was there first.

My son received a dragon - it had a lot of parts sticking out, but the sculpture made it until the ride home and it lost a horn. The lady who made it said they had to stay in the freezer if you wanted to keep them. They would get moldy otherwise, I think she said. We have one in the refrigerator from last May - but when my son tried to eat a piece it was really hard.

Just a word of warning, if you are handed one, be very careful, my DH was handed one and it was still hot. He got a beauty of a blister on his finger.

They are free! Like the Balloon man Andy Mation says a rare thing to be free at Disney! (He makes balloon characters and gives them away at Aniimation store. The candy taste good that she makes!

Someone asked how to get it home...I saw someone at the airport with one. He had it stored inside one of the souvenir popcorn buckets, which I thought was a good idea.

When I went in September and watched her, she was only making them for the kids. Though, maybe they were all waiting for awhile. Not one was made for an adult.

If you want to bring it home here is what I did...When I was shopping at DTD I got a long box maybe about 15-18" long and it was about 4"wide x 4" deep and I asked for some tissue paper. Back at my resort I packaged it in there with the tissue some kleenex. I then brought it on the plane and put it under the seat in front of me. Got home in one piece.
