Is the dinner package for CP a must do in order to get a seat? We will be there Dec 10-15th and want to see the show, but aren't yet convinced if we should do a dinner package or just take our chances and wait in line. Also how long of a line would one wait in if we chose that option?

We did the dinner package last Dec. (mid-month). We went to the 8:15 show. I got in the 'pass holders' line at about 7:30-7:40. I was probably about 150 people back in the line (at least). There was a pretty long line on the other side for the non-pkg. people. I think most of them got in tho, but seats way off to side and the back. You can always just stand outside the theater and watch that way...a lot of people do that.

:D DW and I were going to the CP last 12/13, a Friday night. We hoped to see the 6:45 show but when we arrived about 6:00 the standby line was as long and wide as any line I had ever seen, anywhere!! I talked to some people at the front of the line and they had got into line hoping to get into the 5:00 show but now were waiting for the 6:45 show. It was at that moment that we decided this year to do the CP dinner package. I mean you have to eat anyway...right.

We are going to CP on Friday 12/3 with R&C dinner at 8:00. Can't wait.

goofy4tink is right...you can stand and watch from the back but the view is not that good and after walking & standing all day I like to sit and watch a show. We watched from the back last year a bit but decided to move on.:D

If you go on a weeknight (not Friday or Saturday night), you should be able to get in. Get in line about 45 min before. We got in on a Thursday night last year (12/11 I think) about 15 minutes before and got seats in the back.

But if you are going to have a nice sit down dinner at Epcot that evening anyway why not get package which will give you agreat seat for performance of CP you want to see with out much of a wait.:wave2:

We have done the CP package several times and enjoyed it every time. We have also done it in the standby line and the seats were just about as good.

One reason we are going to go without the package this time is that your are "locked in" to a certain show with the package, but the weather may not "cooperate". We have been rained on twice with the package and the seats were not under cover. The standby seats are just behind the package seats.

The only caveats are that you are not guaranteed a seat if it's a popular show and you may have to spend more time in line. So far we have always gotten in. :) Since we have seen the show a few times, we can always wait until another night. We plan to see one of the Hal Holbrook shows on the next trip in December.

If you have never done a package with dinner, I would do it at least once. It is a pretty good deal. When we did it, they also included a 20% discount on purchases at EPCOT that day, but I don't know if they do that anymore.

Thanks to all who helped. We booked a package for 6:45 show and 8:00 dinner at R&C, our favorite spot to catch Illuminations. One odd thing happened though, the CM said 8:00 was the only time we could book our dinner at R&C if we do the 6:45 show. This works for us, but I thought it was more flexible:confused:
