We finally made the decision to spend Christmas at Disney World. It will be me, DW and DS (age 6). We would like to attend the Candlelight Processional one evening while we are there. Has anyone tried this with a 6 year old (or so) boy? Would it be able to keep his attention? Just don't want him getting antsy and ruining it for others. We may actually try this on either Christmas Eve or Christmas night. Should be beautiful.

I went with my cousin and her six year old son two years ago. Joey went in there with the "this is boring" attitude. Threatened to walk out (he actually walked away from us, staying in sight, and waited for us to follow, but when we didn't, he came back). He then sat there, complaining about how boring it was, until my cousin took him out of the theatre.

I'm sure some kids handle things like that better did Joey did, but remember it is an hour long, and it can be boring for kids. Is your son used to going to church, and hearing choir music? My friend took her five year old nephew to see it, and he loved it. He is used to behaving in church, and his parents are very strict with him at church.

If you do go, I'd have something to keep your son occupied in case he gets bored (I told my cousin to take her son's gameboy, which she had carried around all week, and she didn't take my advice, and she paid for it).

EXCELLENT advice with regard to the Gameboy. I will definitely bring it along! Thank you!

I saw the article on the front page about
Candlelight Processional 2004. Here's a quote from it:

A mass choir, joined by a 50-piece orchestra and a celebrity narrator, tell the story of Christmas in words and music, in a very moving performance.

So, do they tell the real story of Christmas, i.e. the birth of Christ?

Thanks

Yes, it definitely is the Christian story of Christmas. One of the passages is "One Solitary Life" which is very moving.

By any chance does anyone know when the list of guest hosts will be released??

I got this list from mouseplanet.com the list along with prices for the meal package are about half way down.

A tentative list of narrators for 2004 has been released:

* Rita Moreno (November 26–28)
* Heather Headley (November 29 – December 1)
* Kirk Franklin (December 2–4)
* Jim Caviezel (December 5–7)
* Marlee Matlin/Jack Jason (December 8–10)
* Joshua Morrow (December 11–13)
* Hal Holbrook (December 14–16)
* Steven Curtis Chapman (December 17–19)
* Edward James Olmos (December 20–22)
* Gary Sinise (December 23–28)
* LeVar Burton (December 29–30)

It has been announced already that the packages go on sale on Sept 2nd. We're hoping for Christmas day so I'll be on the phone at 6:55am that day!

Just in case you didn't already know:

You'll need to decide yes or no very soon. If you go to CP on Christmas Eve or Christmas night (or any night that week, actually), you will need to buy the Dinner Package. If you do not, you will have to stand in the standby line (it will be huge) and risk not getting in at all. Most of the theater will be taken up by the Dinner Package people during Christmas week.

Many, many book their CP Dinner Packages for these days as soon as they become available (September 2 this year). The "good" PS times book very, very quickly.

IMHO, the CP is a "do not miss" event - very beautiful and moving. As the others have posted, it's hard to predict how someone else's child will react to it. If you think your 6 year old will not enjoy the show, consider letting him stay at one of the kids' clubs while you and your DW enjoy the dinner and the show. There is a club at the BC/YC complex for which there are good reports - you'll want to do your own research of course. They do offer food/dinner for the kids. The club is close enough to EPCOT's WS that you could walk and get him after the CP so that you can all enjoy IllumiNations together. If you go that way, I'd recommend the 6:45 show (it'll be over by 7:30) and eating before the show. That would put your son in the club from about 4:30 - 7:45. Just another option to consider.

Best wishes -

Just a quick question:

Is there any recognition of other traditionally December holidays...or just Christmas?
