Doing CP standby. If I'm wandering around in the vicinity of Italy/Germany is there a good marker to tell me when the line is getting to the point where it would be a good idea to jump in?

The line only gets longer, it never gets shorter IMO.
If your not in the front of the line for the first show then your gonna have to wait for the second, while the first show is going on. The best way to get in is be there early for the first show. Keep in mind that if your in line for the second show you may be listening to the first show, so its kinda like seeing it twice.

We are going to try and do a standby also, I think on 12/22. How early should we start lining up for CP? and how long do the shows last?
thnx

Its approximately 40 minutes long, and I would get in line as soon as you see 20-50 people in line.

We had the reserved seating last year for the second show on 24/12 and that line was sooo long, I don't know if anyone in the stand-by line got in!

Best advice - get there early for the first show!

Which section of WS does the line start to que up for CP? This way we can start on the other side and end up near here by 4pm.
THANKS!

The reserved line (those with packages) is on the same side as Morrocco. The unreserved line is on the same side as Germany. We were there Thanksgiving week. Boy was the unreserved line long!

I have a couple of questions.

I can walk but have trouble standing still for long periods of time. I was able to stand for a period of time to see the Beach Boys last year only because a kind lady in a wheelchair allowed me to hold onto the back of her chair. I will have a GAC. Will that allow me to hold a place in line?

I cannot get the package because I cannot eat much either.

All that being said we are planning on going on the 12th which is supposed to be a fairly slow night (hopefully), if I wait for a later show might I be able to get a seat, not necessarily front or anything?

I apprecate your thoughts and experiences.

Even on a relatively unpopular night, the stand-by line can be long...you'll have to be there awhile. You may consider renting a wheelchair so you can sit while you're in queue. We'll be at the late show on the 12th, but we did get the dinner pkg. The speaker is Eartha Kitt, I'm looking forward to seeing her.

Chuck, thank you so much for your input. Possibly I can get there very early and sit on one of the benches along the path. I have seen others do so.

The reason we picked the 12th is because of Eartha. I have loved her since I was a kid and ran around singing "Hey Big Spender". Hey, what did I know? (grin) My mother was a very tolerant woman and did not ruin my joy in the song. Bless her heart.

Last time we saw the CP we did buy the package, more for the seating than for the food and I was appalled in that the line was so very long and I barely made it until I could sit down. I wish they had some sort of a thing like Fantasmic where you could show up and sit down ahead of time. I do not mind sitting for an hour before a show if necessary.

I cannot think that I would want to rent a wheel chair just to sit it to see the show. I am afraid to sit down in one until I have to or I will be confined sooner than necessary. Moving targets are harder to hit. LOL I can walk, just not stand still. Odd, but true.

Would you happen to know if one show might be easier to get into than another?

Maybe we will see each other there. I wear my DIS pin most of the time.

We've only gone to the late show, this will be our 4th year, and we've always done the CP Okg, so I don;t know if some shows are less crowed...I guess it also depends on the weather. With the pkg, we usually line up as soon as the 6:45 show begins. Mom is in a wheelchair for the parks...at 81 and 3 hip surgeries it is just too much walking otherwise. We line up early because there is limited room for wheelchairs in the covered area near the front. There is also w/c seating towards the rear of the theater, but cover is good in case of rain. Maybe you can have another member of your party stand in line while you wait near a bench, then you can join them as they begin seating the theater.

If you can get in the line before it gets to the area where it starts to bend and curve around the wall, you should be able to make it into the show without any problems. If you are in the switchback roped off area, there is a cutoff on how many people can go in so it is not guananteed that you will get a seat in the first show.

Thank you very much! I'll have to find my Epcot map now and plot out our course.

We just did the 8:15 CP with dinner package last night. We walked by the stand by line around 7:30 and there were maybe 15-20 people max. At the other end, for the dinner package, we got in line around 7:40 and were way back, I would guess at least 150-200 in front of us. Actually the stand by line was let in before we were able to get a seat, but we still had good seats. It seemed they were running behind in opening for seating. Based on our only experience, the stand by line seemed the route to go. The show was great.

Based on the info here and my gut I have decided to let the Fates decide. Since I just booked our ten day trip a couple of days ago and got a discount to boot. Also got right through the the reservation center. Seems like the Fates are with us. LOL

We have three days planned at EPCOT so we might be lucky and be there one night when it is not so very crowded. I am thinking that we might even be able to stand in the back and still see pretty well, if I can find something to lean on.

I will hold out hope to see Eartha though as she is my favorite of the ones who will be there then.

Thank you all for your input and hope to see some of you there.

The night I was there, I encountered a situation just like yours-where the person couldn't stand for long periods of time. She was with someone else and so they both approached the CM at the entrance together to explain the situation. The CM brought the lady who couldn't stand for long to a seat and directed the person with her, "Just remind me when you get to me that you're with each other". The CM was very accomodating. Perhaps if you just go to the CM when you get there, she'll be sure you have a spot in line.
BTW, for those wondering about the length of the stand-by line; I jumped in at the end by Italy, where they were winding it around in circles there, and I got in. However, the CM stopped the line about 20 people in front of me, which made me very nervous that I wasn't going to get in. But she was just waiting a few moments for the enterring people to get settled before she continued.

Sorry - but I'm a little confused.

We have the CP dinner package for the 8:15 show on Thursday, 12/8. How long ahead of time should we get in line to see the show?

How can I find out who the speakers are? I tried the search but couldn't find the right thread. [Later: I found it!]

Btw, I was in a wheelchair for the Beach Boys and held our place in line for 3 hours -- but my family went off to do stuff and left me without an umbrella for sun shade! Moral, be prepared!

Pixie_Dust, it seems as if you and I could have a symbiotic relationship in that I could lean on your wheelchair AND give you shade to boot! :sunny:

If you do a search on CP you will come up with the listing. If I were smarter about how to post things to the forums I would post for you.

Slightly Goofy (who is more worried about the driving weather than CP right now)

The standby line is the single most ridiculous line I've ever seen at Disney when you combine that fact that the line for folks with tickets to the event went all the way to MOROCCO from the American Adventure. We all got in of course, but I don't know how many people got in from the stand by line. This was the 8:15 show. I highly urge you to get the Candelight Package. Why waste hours in line???

EDIT: I guess they are probably sold out already but I'd still try.
