We are about a month away from our first trip to the World and I really want to go to Candlelight Proc., but I am concerned that my kiddos will not be interested. Do you think it is appropriate for a 5 and almost 3 year old? Thanks.

Mom's deserve to get to do some of the things they want at WDW too!! i say go. The CP is a beautiful production that relates the true meaning of Christmas. it is in an outdoor theater and includes lights and music. if your children have been to a special church service or concert, they should be great wtih it. TAke a special snack or new toy and they will be fine even if it is not their favorite .We did the CP package but we were really rushed through dinner and still had a long line so I am on the line on that one. We love December at WDW.

If you go to the early shows you should be OK. It's probably not something that children of that age will enjoy, but you certainly will. We've been to performances (always the early ones during a week day) where it is not crowded and you could sit near the back and come and go. Like OP says, there can be a long wait in line and you should bring something to entertain the kids. Have fun.

I agree that as parents you should get to do some of the things you want to do and the kids just come along and usually end up enjoying themselves. If your kids are the kind who will sit with their spinning lights, or a book or crayons with a book light, they should be good. It is a beautiful sight and you'd be lucky to be down in the seats.
I have one child, however, who just had a hard time sitting still. If you have one like this here is another option. We have frequently caught the CP while we are making our way around the world and watched it from America. This way the kids were free to roam without disturbing anyone, we didn't have to wait in line to get in, but we still were able to hear everything, see everything and enjoy the show. Good Luck and have a great time!

If they know some traditional Christmas(religious) music then they should be ok. Most of the music is Christmas music that we listen to at home and in the car. That being said, the past 2 times that we have taken dd(age 3) she has fallen asleep both times. We went to the 8:15 show and after a long day of walking around, she just fell right to sleep. We will see how this year goes since we will be bringing our 8 mos. old for the first time. I think it is important for children to gain an appreciation for good music and so you can just prepare them ahead of time and tell them that this is a time to sit still and to listen to the pretty music. We also brought a lollipop(dd favorite) just in case we needed it.

We took our DS (4 then) last December. He got bored towards the end, but did good. He knew the songs and enjoyed that part along with the light and all. I agree with the others, just take along something for them to do and you'll be fine.

Thanks everyone, those are some great suggestions. Especially the one about the lollipop. My daugther will do almost anything for one of those! I think my son will actually really enjoy it. He is the older one. And my daughter loves music, so maybe she will surprise me! And if not, then maybe daddy and daughter will have a little time of their own.:thumbsup2

I agree that you could bring something along for your little ones to do... just in case they get bored. You may be surprised though. We have, as long as the kids can remember, have gone to the candle light serivce on Christmas Eve at our church. They LOVE it! This is an event that I always loved myself and it just seemed to "make' my whole Christmas. I never really realized how much it meant to the kids until last month. Our oldest is coming home from the Alaska (he is stationed there after his two tours in IRAQ) for the holidays and the first thing he ask "What time does the service start?" I am in the medical field and must work this Christmas EVE... my kids were clearly upset by that... I assured them I would get them all dressed and daddy would make sure they made it. All four kids DS22, Ds16, DD 8 and DD5 ALL said that they "cannot' miss this candle light service.

No matter what you decide... you will have a wonderful Christmas.. Your with your family in Disney.. does not get much better then that!!!!!

I would definately give it a try and follow the advice of the others to have something to occupy them with just in case they get bored. We opted not to take our 2 year old this time because she can't make it through an entire church service yet (45 mintues max) and we've already seen it once. We'll definately go again, once she can sit through church quietly!

I know the first time we did it we had to wait in line for 2 hours, but my FIL waited while we took turns wandering around WS. Maybe one of you could take the kids for short walks or snack breaks so they aren't totally bored before the show starts? If possible, getting the dinner/show ressies might be the best because then you don't have to wait in the 2 hour long line. That is what my MIL and FIL do now!

Good luck and enjoy your Disney Holiday

That's what I was thinking, if you go to the late one, they'll fall asleep.

I have us scheduled for the dinner pkg with our 7/9/12 yos. They are moaning about missing ride time, but 1) I know they will love it, 2) we're going our first night there and I think it is the right way to start the season, and 3) tough noogies, its my vacation too!;)
