I went to Relay for Life this weekend with my friend to interpret for her. It reminded me that there are many cancer survivors and they are not all survivors of breast cancer although that seems to be the focus most of the time. We had survivors of cervical cancer, leukemia, lung cancer, brain cancer, melanoma, prostate cancer as well as breast cancer. Some had survived for many years and others were just beginning their journey. And one had never had cancer himself but is considered a survivor because he was born to a Mom with cervical cancer and it was a race as to which would win. He won and was born at 28 weeks gestation and Mom had the cancer removed and she is also a survivor. These people are awesome with very positive outlook. Their experiences pale to mine with melanoma as a teen. (Quick surgical excision over 40 years ago) I have offered to interpret for Relay for Life next year as a volunteer.
