If you go to the verizon store to switch don't let them tell you it's not possible to use the iPhone on the prepaid. I went to the verizon kiosk at our local mall to change my plan and the girl wouldn't do it. Told me I could only get the prepaid plan with a new phone. Came home called and switched my plan

Wow, I went to my local corporate owned Verizon store and they said I could do it (switch to prepaid). My contract is up in 2 months and I have a brand new iphone 4s that was given to me (for use on the Verizon network). I checked to make sure it could be used when I was at the store and they scanned the ESN and verified it was clean/clear.

OP here. Just wanted to come back and tell everyone that we did it! We were able to keep her number and switch to prepaid with a 20 minute call to Verizon. I have another question but think I'll start a new thread. Thanks for all the help. Oh, we looked into Page plus ,may switch but it was just $5 less than Verizon and DD decided to stick with Verizon for this month.

I agree with the previous posters who mentioned Page Plus Cellular. My DD13 wanted an iPhone, but I wasn't willing to commit to a 2 yr contract with a cell phone carrier. After reading on here that you can activate an iPhone 4 or 4s (Verizon branded only) on Page Plus Cellular, I paid around $200 for a used iPhone 4s in excellent condition on eBay for her. It also included a Lifeproof case. I buy the $25 pay-as-you go plan, and it lasts her on average 2 months. I also use an iPhone 4s with Page Plus Cellular, and my cost is only about $6/month because I don't talk and text as much as my daughter. I have data turned off, and use wi-fi when able.

I don't think Page Plus Cellular will be able to activate the phone for you. I paid a 3rd party vendor on eBay to activate the phone. It was done in about a minute. I think it's .99 cents if you're activating a new account/phone # and 4.95 to port (ESN change) existing Page Plus # to an iPhone 4 or 4s.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

I would really like to do this.. Can you talk me through it a bit more? I rarely talk or text but would like to use the web occasionally when there is no wifi. What's the cheapest I can do that? For $6 a month do you not have any data? Also, if you do the monthly plans do the minutes roll over? Thanks.

We just broke our contract with Verizon. We switched to t mobile. They paid our early termination fees and paid us for our Verizon phones. My dh was $100. We pay $16 month for our new nexus 5 and our bill is bow cheaper. We are happy with our service.

Fantastic news! :)

OP with latest...ok, I really will be getting a smartphone, but do NOT want to rush the decision since they are so expensive and some are tied to carriers. I figured I would keep my dumb phone for this month and get the easiest prepaid while I researched smartphones......Verizon would not let me buy their $35 prepaid plan for my old Verizon flip phone ( told me I had to buy the $50 plan with data even though I don't need ANY data) Soooo, I called Page Plus and got the $29.99 plan ( which also comes with 500 MB of data). Just waiting an hour for Verizon to release my number and will be finalizing.... Hopeful it goes well.

We love page plus and have used them for all of our family for about 3 years now. We have 3 iphones on PP. PP will activate for you with no problem; we activated ours through them directly and have even switched numbers between phones a few times (kids trading phones).

PP has several plans, $12, $29, $39, $55, and $69. The 12 and 29 have limited talk and text and the data is smaller as well. Not sure the amount on the 12, but the 29 has 500 mb of data. The 39 also has 500 mb of data but unlimited talk and text. The 55 has ul talk and text and 2.5 gb of data and the 69 is unlimited tnt with 5 gb of data.

We use a combo of the plans with our family. The younger kids have limited plans, older teens have the small unlimited, dh uses the 55, and I have the 69 which I tether to my laptop and

Eta: PP does not roll over. Despite that we are very very happy with them! You can use most any Verizon phone with the exception of some of the 4G phones.

Ok thanks. So what happends if you want to go over for a month? I also don't understand the "pay as you go" option. Is this only if you don't want any data?
