cancelling question

Greetings all,
I wish I was coming to you all in better spirits than I am, but a tragedy has occurred that is threating the cancelation of my major family trip to WDW. My countdown timer is below so that you can see what I am up against and my situation is this:
I have 2 timeshares, 1 is a feb use year at HHI that I used to book a 2BR at SSR, I had to borrow points. The second is an Aug use year BCV that I used to book a studio at SSR at the same time. Both reservations are for 1 week. As i am very troubled by the thought of cancelling, I need someone with clearer thinking and I firm understanding of point using than myself to help me figure this out.


Can I cancel and not be penalized on points or should I try to see the reservations to someone else? Please make any suggestion.

You have until 31 days to cancel without the points going into a holiding account. Holding account points can only be booked 60 days in advance of check-in and expire at the end of your use year. If you cancel 31 days or more before arrival, your points will go back into your account as regular points, however the borrowed points have to be used by the end of your use year.

Best wishes regarding your situation. I've been there, my mom has health problems and we always seem to have a problem hovering around the 30 day mark. I've been lucky that we've never had to cancel.

While there are no penalties for cancelling more than 31 days out, you may have problems using the points due to your Use Years. Let's walk through it.

February 2004 points are good for trips through January 31, 2005.
JULY 31 is the deadline for banking 100% of your February 2004 points. If you'd like to use this option, remember it must actually be done by Friday, July 30, 2004 (it has to be done on the day before if MS will be closed). If you also borrowed points from February 2005, those can't be banked. Those points will have to be used by January 31, 2005.

Your August Use Year points -- I'm assuming these are August 2003-July 31, 2004 points? These are at the greatest risk. You are beyond all banking deadlines and you are into the final 60 days of your Use Year (can no longer make non-DVC reservations). These must be used for DVC trips by the end of the month. You might be able to use the option of depositing them into Interval International for a trade within the next two years. You can consult with MS on this point.

If these are August 2004 points, you are home free. You can use them through July 31, 2005 or bank them into August 2005.

Renting this trip might also be a consideration.
