I am due to go on 24th September for a week in orlando then a week on a cruise from miami to jamaica and grand cayman

I am cancelling due to the weather- i think orlando will be okay but cruising is probably not ideal- grand cayman and jamaica are battered but carnival the cruise line are saying that they may stop at mexico instead of grand cayman

as my wife does not have a british passport she would need a visa for mexico which i dont have time to get in 3days now before we go

carnival are saying there is a 50% cancellation fee but i am arguing that they are changing destination which makes it infeasible for me to go

anyway anyone know what the policy usually is on these things?

also i dont want to cancel but will postpone after so much planning for disney it is upsetting

when would be a good time to go- i am thinking of delaying until the end of October or fist week of november- will there be heavier crowds then and will the weather be okay?

Speaking as someone who has cruised quite a few times, normally a change of destination on a cruise is NOT accepted as a reason for cancellation. As these are exceptional circumstances it may be different, but I suspect you will not be able to cancel/postpone without severe penalties. Sorry if this isn't what you want to hear.

I wouldn't cancel at this late stage, you will lose out loads and you've been planning for ages.

Why not just enjoy a day on the ship instead of going into Mexico? You could try out the spas etc

Mike, are you 100% sure your wife will need a visa.?

The cruiselines have special agreements with Ports on cruises and normal requirements are waived as you are only staying for a few hours. As long as you have met the requirements of the cruiseline to take the cruise you are usually ok even if you can not meet the requirements of the country that you are visiting.

Give Carnival a call, you may be pleasantly surprised!

Good luck,

Michelle
