Kim from Great Outdoor Camper Rentals just emailed me that she is going out of business and will not have her popup for me to rent in January.

As such, I have to cancel my "once in a lifetime" trip in January 2009 that was going to get my 16 year old sister to Disney for her first time.

There will be a partial hookup site available for MJK week if any of you are interested.

:sad1:

Everything happens for a reason, but it doesn't help me to feel any less sad about not getting to enjoy the Fort.

Can't you find a rental from someone else ????? I'am sure some one on here knows who rents pop-up campers. Enterprize rent a car has some camper rentals

I don't know of any of the other rental places that bring it and set it up.

I was flying down, so I will not have a tow vehicle to pickup a popup, and I do not have a full hookup site for a class a.

I would love to salvage this trip, but don't know how to and still afford it.

Rent a tent and cots from Disney. They set up the tent for you.

Go to WalMart.com and buy a few other things you may need and have them shipped directly to the Fort. Then gift them to other campers or ditch them when the trip is over.

Were you planning on cooking in the popup?? If so, that might be a bit more complicated, but if you weren't then the tent option would work great!!

Actually the cooking part is the deal breaker for us. (not to mention that there would be 5 of us so we can't stay in a value)

We really can't afford to feed 5 of us in the park everyday and buy two rooms to house us all. I had planned on coming back to the popup and eating a lot of the meals.

We also have frequent flier miles that my step father accumulated from Southwest that he was buying our flights with, and they expire on February 1, 2009.

We are stuck between a rock and a hard place here.

I can get you a good deal on a 5th wheel...... ask for Tina. She'll do you ok!

We used an electric skillet when we tented. We also used match light charcoal on the grill.

Renting a tent from FW is about the same as renting a popup.

Like Carol said, order a few things from WM online and have them shipped to FW. A little cooler($20), electric skillet(20), small electric heater(20), etc. You could carry blankets an pillows on the plane or put them in those space bags and pack them. With the luggage restrictions, it gets a little harder. Garden Grocer delivers.

If I lived nearby I would help you out. I pray it all works out.

Maybe a good code will come out for POR.

The price of Tina's 5th wheel would probably put it out of their price range. For the 5er and the site, the could stay at POR. Although there is no cooking in the room. I know POR has a fridge, but I don't think they even have a microwave.

Value resorts have the suites, but they are as much, if not more, than POR.

Thanks for everything guys!!! I only have a partial hookup site (it was ALL I could get) so I can't rent the 5er.

I also JUST got an email telling me that my $78.25 deposit is insufficient because it is being called a "premium site" and they need $110.75. I don't know if they upgraded me to a full hookup or just raised the price of the partial hookup.

When I click the links to my reservation in prior emails, it takes me to the new reservation detail, so I have nothing to compair it to.

WHAT!!!!!??????

110 for a partial????? I don't think they can bump you to a premium when you only want and need a partial. And 78 for a partial is crazy as well. What are they doing? I guess the rates are not out yet so they are just putting everyone at the premium and price and sorting it out later. That is nuts.

This is SO nice of you!! It actually made my day!

Kim (the girl with the popup) had sent me an email earlier telling me that she has a dog that camps in her camper and she read that my daughter has asthma and that she understood if I wanted to cancel... I originally thought that was SO nice, but when I told her that one dog wasn't an issue because we have one, she came right back with an email that said she was going out of business.

I didn't know if she was trying to get me to cancel so that she could keep some of the deposit because I was the one who cancelled and when I didn't cancel then she dropped the bomb that she was going out of business. I am VERY sympathetic that she has to close her business... I realize that times are tough, but it felt EXTREMELY sneaky to try to petition me to cancel first AND then when I didn't, she told me she was closing up shop.

I need to house 5 people, and would like a kitchen. I LOVE to camp. I guess this was all too perfect to be able to rent a popup, camp, and save some money on meals.

I am thinking about buying a pop-up to add to my rentals. I have never been inside one and have no idea what to look for. I am getting requests for pop-ups and this may be a good time to buy one. I am also thinking about offering tent camping packages. Everyone, please jump in!
I would not give up yet

I kinda feel the same way. Something seems fishy. I really hope something works out for you.

You could also look for everything you need cooking wise at flea markets, yard sales, goodwill, etc. and ship it down, then gift or dispose of at the end of your trip. That would be even more economical.

I worry about tent camping in January with the temperatures being so unpredictible.

IF I got a good code on POR to house all five of us, and bought hotplates, wouldn't mousekeeping report us for having that stuff in our room?

I was trying to see who I could leave behind to get the party down to 4 and stay at a value resort, because all of us except my sister have been there before, AND I really wanted to get her there, but that still doesn't help our meal situation.

I know I am trying to do this on a shoestring, which isn't ideal. We used to be able to afford a trip like this, and then oil skyrocketed. I heat my house with oil and drive 70 miles each day in a not too fuel efficient vehicle for work. The groceries skyrocketed. Electricity deregulated and doubled my monthly bill. etc. etc. All the while the paycheck never went up to afford it. The normal stuff affecting the average household, but I still wanted desperately to get my sister to Disney before she is all grown up and gone.

I called Disney to price the Value suites and the guy on the phone said they "may" be able to get a full hookup site and then I could rent from Tina. That would be awesome, I just have to come up with a little more $$$.

This is where I just love the Dis! You guys are so great!

Sounds like it's time to stay off property in a cheap condo or motel suite with a small kitchen.

We really liked a Homewood Suites recently at Disneyland, and are staying at Hawthorn Suites near WDW at New Years. The onsite property rates were just too high for me for those trips!

There's so many ways to have a great trip, without having to leave anybody home! :goodvibes

I hope you can work something out. I just wanted to say that we own the same 5er that Tina offers for rent & you would be very comfortable staying in it. Great 5th with a fabulous layout. :)
