If a dining plan is added to a reservation, can it be removed at check-in without penalty?

Does cancelling the dining plan result in the cancelling of the entire ressie and rebooking? Or can they just remove the plan?

MS just removes DDP; accommodations part remains untouched.

I don't know what will happen if you call with less than 48 hours to cancel DDP; you may want to call MS to ask if you think that someone in your party may not show up at last minute.

The member you rent from will have to remove the DDP from your reservation. You won't be able to call Member Services unless you are the member who owns the points used to make the reservation.

I just asked this question of MS last week for our upcoming May trip.

Our son, currently deployed in Iraq, hopes to join us for his R & R. I can't see paying for the entire 9 night stay if he can only be with us for 3 or 4 of those days. Unfortunately we won't know until several days prior to arrival what his schedule will be.

I was told the DP had to be canceled prior to check-in. I could be standing in the lobby and calling on my cel to cancel. Once checked-in you can't cancel. I'm sure they would appreciate more notice if possible. Cancellation must be done through MS, though and can't be handled at the resort.

Be careful planning to cancel on your day of check in. MS says 48 hours. Once the resort has your reservation, MS may have to cancel and rebook that reservation without the ddp. That could mess up your points and could take much longer to checkin.

Something similar happened to me at SSR when we upgraded from 2 studios to a 2 bed at check in. I was happy they could upgrade us, but the ddp and cancellation of studios was a total pain. I had guests, and it took a long time and my points were mixed up.

I believe they say 48 hours because MS still has control of the reservation. On the day of check in, if you check your online account you will notice your reservation has moved to the "completed" list. Once completed, all bets are off. Also why cancellations on the day of check in result in a forfeiture of points.
