I was wondering whether anyone had any experience of this.

We have only paid our deposit (£250) for the whole holiday package we booked back last year. We are only using the flight part of it, and including everything, we still have a balance of £3000 to pay by August (we are flying Club).

Further to the extremely helpful thread below, I have checked and to book Club seats now would cost us £2200 - a huge saving. BA holidays aren't open today, and there are only a few seats left....I am pretty sure if we cancel now (more than 56 days out, we don't fly until the end of October), we would only lose our deposit, which would still leave us well in pocket.

I realise the safest advice would be to wait until BA holidays open tomorrow at 9am, but I am rubbish at waiting! Can anyone help??

Yiou need to check the T&C's of your contract. You may at this time be liable for futher costs.

I would certainly think you will lose your deposit but even so as you say if can afford to lose the deposit and still save money then what are you waiting for as you are worried playing the waiting game. At least this way you are still saving and if you manage to get out of losing the deposit (doubtful!) you would have saved even more. I would book and save what I can but that is me. I do hope you get good news from BA holidays, it may even be worth explaining to them re the cost difference to see what they can do. Did you try calling BA holidays - I thought they were open on Sundays? I wish you every success in saving as much as you can. Do let us know how you got on and any decisions that you made. :thumbsup2

I had tried calling BA Holidays, but they are closed all day on Sundays now - typical! I also tried calling BA flight reservations, but they didn't know the answer, and there was nothing they could do....I'm just waiting for Holidays to open this morning. I'll let you know how I get on!

Just to confirm - we have successfully cancelled our holiday booking, and rebooked our Club seats. Even after forfeiting the £200 deposit, are £900 richer. Woo-hoo!

Glad things worked out for you
you are not the only one :rotfl2:
we booked a package deal and now have decided to do things different got cheaper flights with a stop over in new york
but are losing our depoist of €300
