Cancelled first time ever...need prayers for my DH

Hi fellow DVC'ers!

I wanted to give everyone an update regarding my husband. He "graduated" from home care PT as he had advanced to a high functioning level. He is now starting an outpatient PT program. He doesn't need his walker and rarely uses a cane. Except for late at night, he walks independently. They just have to help him with some minor balance issues. He saw a neuro optometrist who prescribed two pairs of glasses for him. He can now read a newspaper and computer screen which he was unable to do after his stroke. They will be doing more tests on him tomorrow, followed by some type of vision therapy. Sometimes he insists on doing too much...two days ago he insisted on doing grocery shopping with me (large market). I spent most of the time following him and making sure that he was ok and forgot half of the things I needed lol! I'm becoming a "hellicopter" wife! He tells everyone that one day he just felt better and started walking...the power of your prayers! Thank you all again. See you in Disney!

Oh, you made my day, Christine! Thanks so much for posting! I am continuing to pray and light candles every week for you and John. I just know that his outpatient therapy is going to be productive. Blessings to you both!

Yes, I'm so happy for you. But LOL about the "helicopter wife"! But I'm laughing with understanding.

Now that's the kind of news that make the holidays merry and bright!

Jean, thank you so much for continuing to light candles for us. You are so thoughtful and kind. John's new physical therapist will get him to push ahead...she's tough in a good way. How is your husband doing? Saying prayers for the two of you.

Thank you MinnieGi

Simba's Mom, John's PT laughed at the term too. My sons always complained that I was a helicopter Mom with them and I still try but they're in their mid twenties and just laugh at me now.

dgaston, it is a great holiday gift.

Thanks J and R's mom!

ACDSNY, the holidays are looking much better than they did last month. Thanks.

Wonderful news. Determination often helps with PT. And I am even more glad that his vision can be corrected with two pairs of glasses. You really feel isolated when your vision suddenly becomes a blur and your days just drag. I think I took more naps when that happened to me post surgery in 2012. I was just so bored.

Best wishes that your DHS will continue to improve. Merry Christmas!

Bobbiwoz, thank you!

DenLO, my husband is very determined to "kick this thing". He is surprising the PT staff with his progress. Today he is seeing the neuro-optometrist for a field of vision study and starting vision therapy...could be a four hour process. They are trying to see if he will be able to drive in the future due to his peripheral vision change. I hope that your vision issues are resolved. John was really upset when he couldn't read the sports section of the newspaper and after putting on the glasses he smiled when he could do it again! Merry Christmas to you and your family.

Merry Christmas to all of you who have been so kind and thoughtful throughout my husband's illness! He is doing very well.

My vision problems have all resolved. Per my doctors, that when the body is recovering from an extreme illness or accident, the vision often will worsen while the body concentrates on healing the more severe damaged areas. And that once the healing of the damaged areas improves to a certain stage, then your blurred vision can return to your norm. It took a couple of months post but my vision is back to normal.
