Cancelled first time ever...need prayers for my DH

Disneyaunt4, dreaming4disney, keh422, granmanh603 and bobbiwoz, thank you so very much for your prayers.

Gracerussel, I am so sorry that your husband has to have surgery. You both are in my prayers.

Jean, I am so sorry that your husband is back in the hospital and you had to cancel your trip. Praying for both of you.

My husband is having a tough time of it. His left hand is weak and he is very unsteady. His left eye is affected and he has a little problem with speech. He had more tests yesterday including an MRI. The PT, OT and medical people want him to go to a rehab facility and he is refusing. He just wants to go home. They and I have tried to reason with him but he gets very upset and we are treading lightly because of his medical issues. I have a meeting with them at 2 and hopefully can resolve this. He just won't get the help at home that he can get at a rehab facility for a couple of weeks.

Oh boy, do I hear you. My DH also refused and came home for 2 days and that is why he ended up back in the hospital. I am saying special prayers that your DH will agree. I do understand the powerful comfort that home offers at times of medical vulnerability. OP, isn't it hard to be the tough one who has to push your DH to do what he doesn't want! I know you both are emotionally and physically exhausted. Blessings to you both.

I hope that your husband will be healthy and well enough to come home soon. This morning the doctor convinced my husband to go to a rehab facility to get the care he needs. They were working on getting it together for hours when the discharge planner came to his room and told us that he couldn't be moved today because the authorization department of our insurance company wasn't available on Veteran's Day. I hope that he is still willing tomorrow. On a happier note, I ordered plane tickets for our family trip to WDW in May. There is nothing so relaxing as a Savannah view from the AKV or a dip in the BC lazy river pool. Glad you are planning for a March trip! We will need the "Happiest place on Earth" after this year that's for sure.

Doesn't the wait while bureaucracy does its thing just drive you nuts? Waited 8 hours today for all of the doctors to sign off on an antibiotic. I hope that tomorrow will be the first day on the road to a wonderful rehab for your DH. result. Blessings!

Blessings to all of you. I share all of the frustrations with the medical care available to us. When. DH was in rehab that was especially tough
Hopefully things will prove soon. Prayers and well wishes.

PRAYERS AND HUGS for those going through trying times having HEALTH ISSUES! :grouphug::flower3: May you find comfort and healing!:)

My husband came home from the stroke rehab unit today...against medical advice. Yesterday he decided that he hated it there and was demanding to come home. I spoke to the case manager and she told me that it wasn't recommended that he leave because he wasn't walking well. So I told him and he was furious that I wouldn't take him home...not a good thing to be angry after head surgery and stroke. Today the nurse calls and says that he is demanding to go home AMA and that I should come get him.
Both PT and OT were trying to help the transition but it's pretty bad. He decided to go up the two stairs from the garage by sliding up on his butt. Great except that I couldn't stand him up and thank God my son came by to help me. And he can barely walk with his walker. I am very upset with the rehab staff...feel that he was a "problem child" and they wanted to get rid of him.
He will have home OT and PT set up but it's not good.

Men can be so stubborn, especially when it comes to medical issues. I know because I am one;)

Not sure if it will work on your DH, but something that would motivate me to be very careful and take the rehab seriously would be DW holding the Disney "carrot" on the stick in front of me. (That upcoming May trip!)

Good luck & take care.:)

My DH did the same thing. He was just fed up with hospitals and transitional care after being shuffled around for so many days. He was home for 2 days and ended up back in the hospital--but it was from a superbug he picked up in transitional care. This is life threatening and not fun. So there are pluses and minuses to these facilities. I am praying that being at home will give your DH hope and comfort and maybe that will be a catalyst to move him forward. Please take care of yourself, Christine. I totally understand the stress you are enduring. Even though you are exhausted, you may be having trouble sleeping (I do) as your mind keeps turning around and around. You have many people who are praying for you and we must all hope that things will work out in the end. God bless.

Everyone here really has my sympathy. "Been there-done that" as they say. Dad kept making a major stink and finally snuck out of rehab AMA. But he told Mom he was "surprising her" because he said he was discharged. She only found out the truth later, after he was readmitted with sepsis, like jekjones1558's DH. Such a stressful time for everyone.

Micca, yes, my husband is stubborn and feels that he can get the same kind of therapy with home services followed by outpatient rehab. He is depressed about all of the medical problems he has had for the last two months. He thinks that his life will never be the same and thinks that Disney will be changed for him too.

Bobbiwoz, thank you for your continued prayers.

Jean, I am so sorry that your husband is going through more medical issues. It just feels horrible to watch our loved ones suffer like this. My prayers for you and your husband. Like you, I am not sleeping. He has been sleeping on a couch on our first level because PT hasn't tried stair walking yet so I am trying to sleep in the recliner next to him in case he needs anything. I am grateful for your kind words and for all of the wonderful people who have said prayers for my husband and me.

Simba's Mom, Sorry to hear that you and your family have gone through those stressful times with your Dad. Sending my prayers.

christine & jean, please keep yourselves well too. i know how easy it is to overtax oneself when taking care of a loved one - relax with a cup of tea, go for a walk, call a friend (you are welcome to PM me), watch a silly movie...

your husbands, and both of you are in my prayers & thoughts

Thank you Laurie. Praying for good results on a lab test.

Yarlena, thank you for your prayers.

LSchrow, thank you for your kind words and prayers. I don't mind the extra work...it's the worrying which takes a toll on me.

Jean, you and your husband are in my thoughts and prayers too. I hope that the results of your husband's lab work are good and that he is getting better.

My husband was evaluated by a physical therapist in our home today and should be evaluated by an occupational therapist this weekend. He is walking much better and is motivated to beat this thing. He actually was showing off to the PT person by walking and taking corners "a little too fast" lol. He just wants this to move more quickly and is impatient at times. His vision is altered due to the stroke and he misses stuff in his left peripheral vison.

Well this is sounding hopeful, Christine! If he has decided that he is going to beat this thing then it will happen. And with you to pick up his spirits when he gets frustrated with the speed of recovery and a lot of us praying for you then the 2 of you will make it. Here's to the miracle that is therapy!

Is that a picture of your husband, Jean? How is he doing?

Yes, that is my Bob. He is feeling better though still pretty tired. He will get his stent removed tomorrow. Hope to have the PICC removed on Monday if all goes well until then. He will continue on PT for a while (though he is not too pleased with his therapist). One day at a time...

He looks like a "happy guy". I hope that you and your husband and my husband and I can enjoy the "happiest place on earth" when the guys are healthy and strong again!
