We are thinking of making reservations for the month of February ’08 :thumbsup2 and do not know if we should make multiple reservations (4) or just one for the entire time. Our dilemma (and fear) is that at the last moment we would have to cancel and if within the last thirty day window, all of those points would go into a holding account with all its conditions. If we were to make four separate reservations (not linked) and in the event a cancellation were made with in the last thirty day, the later part of February’s reservations could be cancelled without the points being put into the holding account. I know we may have to move weekly but being checked in seven days prior to the next reservation, we may be able to request the same room, seeing that the room assignments are made about seven days prior to check in. This would also allow us to take the DDP every other week if we so desire.

You should be able to shorten you reservation prior to your arrival date, and only the points for the dropped days would go into holding status, assuming you won't be cutting your trip short once you have arrived and checked in.

Generally, if you are staying at the same resort, in the same class of room, your reservations are linked and considered one reservation, so you couldn't add or drop DDP during your stay. You could move to a different resort, or room size, for each portion of your stay...that would make them completely separate reservations for both the purposes of cancellations and DDP.

.

Chuck, are you saying that if I have to cancel and it happens to be within the 31 days of my check-in date but prior to 31 days of my check-out date, I can bank all of the points that are being used for days after the 31 days? I guess to clarify what I am saying, if I cancel 20 days prior to my check-in day, and my reservation was for 30 days, I can cancel the last10 days of the reservation.

You can cancel part of your reservation, but you can not bank the points, those points still go into holding. This is true if it is one reservation or several reservations. Holding points can not be banked.

What I am saying is generally you can not have multiple consectutive reservations for the same resorts and room type, as the computer will link them and consider them to be one reservation, just like people that call and book day-by-day reservations.

If you truly want completely separate reservations, you'll need to book different resorts or room types (ie standard vs. preferred views)

As I understand, you are saying that all of the points (within or outside) of the 31 days will go into the holding account if only the first part of the reservation is within the 31 day when cancelled. Can I not cancell the "back half" of the reservation if it is not within the 31 day of being used? :confused3
