Canceling a reservation

I have a question and just not sure of the answer. I rented 222 points to a friend and her family for an April trip. I have an Aug. UY,and used 2012 points. there's been a tragedy that's occured in her family and probably won't be able to go.So here's my question: If this does happen ,can i bank my points into 2013 ,or do they need to be used by July 31,2013? Any help would be appreciated.

If you cancel prior to April 1 (four months prior to your UY start on August 1), you should be able to bank these 2012 points...note: I may have counted wrong (you'd think that by now I'd be able to count...but)...anyway, the rule is you can bank during the first 8 months of your use year...

I just wanted to be sure whether the points could be banked into the next year or had to be used before the the current UY expired. You are right that normally i would have till march 31 to bank.

You must cancel at least 31 days prior to the arrival date or they go into holding. If they are all 2012 points, you can bank by March 31.

As long as they were all 2012 points and none of them were banked or borrowed.

You will need to cancel by whatever date will 31 days prior to the first day of their trip in order to bank your points so you need to keep that in mind. You then have until the last day of March to bank. I have found myself with points in holding a couple of times this year (which I have used) but it is now foremost in my mind. You cannot bank holding points so would need to used those points by August 1, 2013 if you wait too long to cancel.
