I was wondering if anyone out there has a trip planned this month or next, and is thinking about canceling it due to the price of gas, wanting to save money for the "unknown" ahead, availability of gas (due to panic buying), etc.

We are set to head to WDW tomorrow, however we are only driving up from Tampa.

My mom was at Busch Gardens in Tampa today and said it was a ghost town! I guess people are wanting to save thier money for the unknown or they do not want to use up what gasoline they have in their vehicles since every gas station around is totally out! (our gas down here around the Tampa area...$2.89-$3.09 for regular. Premium was up to $3.29.

Any opinions? :rolleyes2

I would use any opportunity for lower crowd levels to change my plans into GOING at that time.

Everything is paid for already and we are not going to cancel. We have been planning this trip for 2 years. I cannot imagine the suffering the people effected by the hurricane are going through but our staying home will not help. I will be doing everything I can to help otherwise.

I'm still trying to lock down dates and plan for after the first of the year. The new gas prices realistically have only added about $10 on to my weekly budget. So, while it's less money, it's doable. We'd be flying and that is the one things that could affect our going. I don't have airfare booked yet- as we are in the process of remodeling our dining room and I can't have the extra money for about another month DH says. So, if the prices get too ridiculous then we will be going somewhere closer than Disney.

I am just south of Baton Rouge, and our trip is not until Jan/Feb, 06, but we are all paid for and we are NOT cancelling!!!!! I think it will be wonderful for us to go........... it's so stressful and heartbreaking here right now....... it will be a relief. My DS and I are making a "Disney Scrapbook" right now...... trying to keep things as normal as possible for him. But, I would hope that if at all possible no one will cancel thier trips...... in my opinion, it can only help the kids who are seeing, hearing, experiecing all of this. ( Parent's too)!!!

I'm certain that gas prices will go down....... hopefully soon!!!! and I hope that all the price gouging people will be punished........ it is ridiculous. For us even getting gas is almost impossible right now......... if you can find a place, you wait for hours just to fill up........ but, I'm keeping positive, that's what we all need to do.

Have fun on your trip!!!!!!!

I had thought about that question myself. We are going. We're due to leave in two weeks. I am SO GLAD I made plans to fly this time. We normally drive, but because of the increasing gas prices earlier this summer, we kept looking into the flights and prices. Since our trip to FL is mostly along I-10, we would have had to take a major detour. (Last year, we had to take a short detour near Pensacola??)

We don't use a car while at WDW except for short weekend trips or grocery shopping. I just booked a rental car for 1 weekend and 1 other single day from Nat'l (at the Swan/Dolphin). With Entertainment coupons, it turned out to be about $23 per day.

No Way!! We are going no matter what the price of gas is!!

We may have to reroute our trip across I-20 instead of I-10 if the interstate is damaged as they say it is!! ::MinnieMo

I need this vacation. Our stay starts Oct.1 for 8 days.

Our vacation starts the 17th fo this month and we are driving from Tulsa. Although the gas prices put a kink in the plans we are going to make the best of it---every vacation ends up costing more than you plan, doesn't it??? :moped:
We had planned a stop in Alabama on the Gulf Coast and got a call that we had to cancel those plans. Our prayers are with all those people. :cloud9:

Our group is set to arrive on Friday....Definately not cancelling...there are a few that are glad they got $49 airfare with Southwest as it would definately cost more to drive from PA now...

Everything is going ahead as planned here, as well. Luckily we will be splitting the gas bill with my aunt and uncle, so that makes it a little better on us, since we are going in one car...WITH 3 KIDS AND 4 ADULTS (What am I CRAZY?) Just hoping we don't run into any shortages.

Edited to add: HEY!!! THE TAG FAIRY LOVES ME!!! I've been tagged and I didn't even know it! No telling how long it's been there.Thank you tag fairy, for a sprinkling of pixie dust before my trip. MWAH!

I have to admit I had a small panic attack on Friday morning and thought of cancelling!! It passed!! Flying for the first time!!!! We will be there Oct. 1-6, staying at WL!!! :hourglass

WE TOO are going down From JAN 28- FEB 5 2006...we are staying at PORT ORLEANS French Quarter ..No Plans to cancel~ We are ALSO going on the DISNEY CRUISE next month and DEF not cancelling that ~

we got asked by our travel company if we wanted to cancel because of the storms (even though we dont go till december) we said no

diesel is expensive over here in the uk, it costs me £45 ($68 ) to fill my 1.8 engine ford focus and it doest have a big engine. I have to fill it every ther week

We have a Mother/Daughters trip planned for October 19-23, and everything remains the same for that trip. Our airfare was purchased early in the summer when it dipped below $175 out of Richmond. No changes at all.

For our family Christmas trip December 19-26... still going. But, we may actually drive rather than fly as airfare out of DC/Richmond has spiked. Plus, we usually fly Delta and their future is too uncertain to purchase tickets that far in advance. If we do drive, I guess I will need to change my countdown :moped:

We're still going. Everything is planned, paid for, etc. and our staying home wouldn't do a thing to help anyone else anywhere else. We can still help- our plans to go on this trip doesn't change that in any way. I have had no thoughts of cancelling... I'd just LOSE money that way... doesn't make sense to cancel... no reason to. :)
(oh and we're flying- not driving- so gas is not an issue)
