The one couple we were chatting with had travelled to Alberta this year, and we’re feeling the flip side of it where they could not understand why people were hating on Americans. They quickly learned - they too did not vote for this.

Suspect that's because US media is so scared to show anything other than what the King wants. They have no idea what's actually going on. That's his fascism works. Control the media.

Huge petri dish indeed. I've been staring longingly at epic universe but opting to hold off and go to the new resort in the UK instead. I know its years away, but i honestly can't see myself going to Florida anytime soon anyway. My trips have always been with family (including small children and older folks). I can't imagine risking measles, mumps, or who knows what else. I'm choosing to trust the infectious disease experts who suggest its a bad idea to go. I don't fault folks for still going (and maybe am a little jealous at times), but ill survive and have other places i love that ill visit in the meantime.

I committed to buy direct DVC points in Florida last week before the announcement. After thinking about it for a number of days after the announcement I had to break that commitment; it's a multiple decade commitment and I can't make that commitment to a state that is going to be unsafe for travel long term. I'm well versed in infectious disease myself and don't care to unnecessarily expose my family.

Ugh; I'm sorry. This year has been a roller coaster. I'm not actually Canadian (though I am Canada adjacent, and also looking into Canadian immigration options for my family); it's all my country's fault. I don't understand why people in the US are so crazy. Some of the loudest voices here will take a bad idea and just run with it as far as they can.

There is so much travel and movement of people now that if something is not eradicated worldwide, it can come back. We've even seen some immigrant groups targeted in the US by the anti vaccine movement, and they have had higher numbers of measles outbreaks within those groups here unfortunately as some number within the group have believed the lies.

Okay, after I posted that, I was like "Wait. Immigrants likely don't have the vaccinations that we do in Canada/USA."
That makes complete sense that it would happen.

I will say the politically incorrect thing here: it was the Mennonites. Both myself and my husband have Mennonite background, so I feel at liberty to cast blame here, lol.

Earlier in the year, low German Mennonites brought measles back to Canada (likely from Texas and Mexico). There was a "super spreader" occurrence at a Mennonite family gathering in Eastern Canada. From there, Measles spread like wildfire when those folks returned home to Ontario and Manitoba/Alberta. In each province, the majority of measles cases were among low German Mennonites.

They are anti-vaxxers and do not trust gov't information. This is just one of the many, many reasons our family are no longer practicing Mennonites. Misinformation, distrust of gov't, patriarchy, authoritarianism, social isolation . . . it's a recipe for medical disaster.

I am worried and I own a couple of DVC contract and usually go south each year.

I do believe in vaccines and will be rolling my sleeve up this year.

I am also immune compromised so extra caution has to be considered.

Make a Wish and Give Kids the World are also in Florida.

This could be a very stupid move for Florida to make ,,,half the population are Seniors and the other half Kids ,,major theme Parks and attractions ,,high tourist state.

The full devastation of this change in Policy will be decades in attempting to fix.

I am shaking my head and saying why are you doing this to your People
and Economy?

I think back to covid and masks. My daughter had eczema on parts of her face. Add the must-wear of the mask and it was all over her face. Pure torture. She will never wear a mask ever a again after trying unsuccessfully to treat it. Poor thing. I felt so horrible for her agony.

I have 3 types types Eczema and understand wearing masks.
Skin Specialist told me to just quit my j0b of 30 years of teaching.

Yes they can get vaccinated but is the government supporting that decision financially and with documented scientific support and sharing it with their people?
No and they will regret it.
Herd immunity will be lost in a short period of time.

You would be surprised at the number of students who's parents need a reminder to have their kids seen by a doctor and vaccinated.

Canada achieved measles elimination status in 1998. In essence, it was eradicated in Canada. It's making a comeback because of a lower rate of vaccination and international travel.
Telling an entire state they don't need vaccines is going to affect the rest of the US and borders won't stop it there. Measles can be fatal but that will not be the only fatal disease that will return.

My post was not to start a debate on vaccine, good or bad. It was to question if it would prevent people from vacationing in Florida.

You nailed it 100%. The start was from the large Mennonite gathering in the east, and then spread to our area, which was the worst in Ontario. I'm vaccinated and didn't even want to venture to the local towns.
