Canadian $ up - can we prepay our maintenance fees?

Are there any other Canadian DVC owners out there thinking it might be a good time to pay our maintenance fees? Would they let us pay early? Just a thought as the dollar is getting closer to par. I can't believe that when we bought our first contract the exchange rate was close to 50% - wow did we take a beating! But I'll just look at the bright side - this year's trip is going to be my cheapest ever. I booked my flights at a reasonable rate, got my park hoppers with travel rewards and rented my excess points - woohoo! Ready to go.

I have a US$ account set up with my bank (Royal). Whenever the dollar is good, (especially if I have a substantial purchase in mind) I buy US$ and put it in my account. Of course money in your account or investments can be making you money, so I wouldn't rush to 'prepay' anyone. :)

The speculation seems to be that the dollar will keep rising, so I wouldn't be rushing to prepay. Yesterday they were saying we may hit par by the end of the week. Earlier they were saying by the end of the year. Either way it doesn't look like it will be going down versus the American dollar any time soon. Hang on to your Canadian Dollars until you need to make the purchase.

I wish we could pay monthly online also, That would be awsome..

Maybe in the future

I love the dollar right now, We are going to do a add on probably next month, I hope it stays the same or gets better!!!

Boy, I sure picked a bad time to short the maple syrup market.

Hi everyone, has anyone actually looked into pre-paying their DVC dues? I have a feeling that the dollar will not stay up untill we have to pay in Dec. and I would like to hedge my bets now......
Can you write a USD cheque on your Royal Bank account? What does it cost? If you can and it does not cost that much, that might be the way to go. Thanks for your reply's

I know I can carry a credit balance on my credit card. Maybe those who are wondering should look into a USD CC. Find one with no Annual fees, and you don't have to worry about the cost. Probably cheaper than carrying a USD bank account.

I did not know we could get a U.S. dollar credit card. I also feel that the U.S. dollar account is expensive. I just purchased a small resale, and when I bought a money order from my U.S. $ account the fee was $10.00, okay I understand that. They gave me the option of charging the $10 to my account, and I said yes. So they then charged me another $1 for a withdrawal fee. I know its only a buck but come on. A service charge to pay your service charge?

I go through TD Bank, but I know BMO has one with airmiles even, and RBC has a USD CC from what I've heard. I pay my dues from CC.

Many of us in the UK have prepaid dues because of the strength of sterling (pound) against the US dollar. I contacted MS Accounts and have them take $1000 on my cc, which went through at a great rate.

OTOH, I've just returned from a vacation in the Canadian Rockies and the loonie rose against the pound by 10% from when I started my planning :rolleyes1 Got to say, the trip was worth every cent and then some :)

I have one US bank account (went and opened it when in the US) and also got a US credit card through them. The account is free, but you have to open it with a minimum balance (can't remember what that was, but not much). Paying the bill is the hard part -- we can't do it online so make trips across the border if we have to make a payment. I'm sure there's some other way I have overlooked, but that's what I'm currently doing. I think it may be difficult to get a US credit card (through a US bank) unless you have an account there. For instance, Disney Visa is not even available to me unless you live in the US, so you just can't apply online and be accepted.

I also have US bank account through the Royal and a US credit card, but my husband set up some kind of 'gold service package' that does cost us, but has so many benefits that we actually use (foreign money orders, US account etc.) that it makes it worth it.

Wow - what a lot of great ideas. All I was really wondering was if we could prepay (I just use a regular VISA) because the exchange rate would be good right now AND if anyone else was thinking about it. I think it's a good time and I'm not really thinking that it will last too long. Of course whatever I do - no one else should do because it will be wrong. For instance - I booked my flights - 2 days later the price goes down. Investments - never fails I end up buying high and selling low (lol). Wish I had a crystal ball!

Those who have CAA may be able to apply to AAA to get a USD Credit Card throught them. Especially if you have had CAA for awhile. Just a thought, cause when we got posted to to Georgia, people were telling us to look into a CC from AAA. In the end we didnt', but you never know!
