We are Canadian and are unfortunately not in one of the "special provinces" that can just call up and say "Hey I want to buy". We want to buy SSR direct from Disney to avoid the middle men & want to take part in the new referral promo. Does anyone know how we could? I have relatives who like in a province that can buy from Disney - is it possible to just use their address?
Any suggestions would be awesome.

Thanks
Jessica

Easiest way is to go to WDW and buy while you are there.

I would only use someone else's address to get promo info - you wouldn't want a wrong address on your deed and if you are planning to finance, you'll have problems when Disney does the credit check.

We are from Alberta and bought while in Florida. Our first purchase was in 2003 while we were on the cruise. We bought sight unseen BCV points. When we did the purchase, the deed was put in my name only because if we ever decided to add points, etc, everyone on the deed must be in person (in Florida) Well, this past September, DH could not travel with us so I took a cousin instead. Guess what happened on the ship again? Bought some SSR. The only regret I have is not buying enought points in 2003. It's the best thing we've done. Now each one of our children will get their own deed, and fight about the extra 12 years at SSR.

My only issue with waiting til we get there is that we know we want to go this May. I do not want to pay to stay in Disney in May, then buy the timeshare & have to pay the dues, and then not use them until 2007. It seems like a waste of money to me - does that make sense?

I hate the fact only certain people in Canada can do it. It just seems ridiculous.

Hi,

Have you further considered resale? It went smoothly for us and we got a very good deal. We plan to buy more points when we go down next March. It's really too bad that DVC is not available in all provinces, but I think Canada doesn't have the large population base to make it feasible.

You might want to consider resale, if you have cash available. There really is no reason to buy direct from Disney unless you need them for the financing part of it. Otherwise, a resale is a good choice for you. We went thru Jaki Apetz at atimeshare.com (phone 888-345-2622) when we bought our timeshare last summer, and we had our points in about 6 weeks from when we first made an offer, at $75 per pt at OKW, including banked points, and no dues for this year. We were very happy with her. check out her site to see if there are any packages that are of interest to you, and make an offer. I have sold a contract thru Timeshare Store, and they were very efficient, but I didn't find them easy when buying a contract. I made bids on at least six different contracts, but they were unwilling to submit bids that were below the asking price(most people are willing to pay the asking price--or more). Good luck! :flower:

Just a reminder that if you use a different address you wouldn't be able to purchase the annual passes since your identification (driver's license) would not show you living at the address where the deed was registered.

What's the chance of getting a cheap airfare to Orlando for a quick trip down there? That way you could purchase and use points for your May trip. The money you would save by using points in May instead of paying cash might cover the cost of airfare to fly down early to make the purchase.

Talk to your provincial lawmakers - they are the ones that have decide to "protect" you from Disney, LOL.

If you really don't want to go the resale route, my advice would be to buy next May when you are there. Rent the points that you won't / can't use in 2006 - you should be able to recover more than the cost of the dues.

Best wishes -
