Canadian Care Package

Hello Canadian dissers!

My sister is on the year long cultural representative program at EPCOT working at Le Cellier and we are going to visit in just over 2 weeks. I'd like to bring her a care package of fun Canadian things she can't get down there and would love some ideas. So far I have:

-poppy's for Remembrance Day.
-ketchup chips
-Dairy milk chocolate
-canister of Timmy's coffee

Love to hear what Canadian products you love!

How about Coffee Crisp bars (big box from Costco... she may have to use them as trade currency once her co-workers find out she has them).

All-Dressed chips
Smarties (their minds will be blown by what we call Smarites and she can debate them if our Smarties are just M&Ms or way better than M&Ms)
The obvious real maple syrup (or better maple syrup candies if you're looking at trade currency)
Crispy Crunch
Favourite sport team t shirt
Butter Tarts (seriously - a Canadian "invention" and considered strange else where, and of course, always the 'are raisins' food debate)
If you want to make the chips extra Canadian, send Old Dutch brand
Anything with the Hudson Bay stripes on it (Toque, mittens, towel, fleece throw)

This may sound odd but the one thing my sister wanted was... a bra! seriously, the specific one she wears wasn't available in the states

A toque with something Canadian on it .. maple leaf, Roots, HBC something, blue jays, again sounds odd but there will be some nights she'll want one and some gloves as well. My sister did the same stint and on a few nights it was really cold heading to the bus.

Good old kraft dinner, the stuff they have is not the same. PC chocolate chip cookies.

Just chatting with my sister now, she's down for her b-day and she says that everyone always asked for extra strength Advil, who knew!!!!!

Con - Smarties will, in fact, melt in your hand.

Interesting. Didn't know you couldn't get that down there. Personally, I always stock up on the mega bottles of Excederine Migraine when we're down. Can't get that here, and IMHO, works waaaaay better than Advil.

I think you can only get the 400mg dose with a prescription in the US.

I looked up the Excederin Migraine. It's a mix of acetaminophen and ASA, so clearly that combo works better for you than Advil, which is just ibuprofen. Everybody's body is different, so it's just a matter of knowing what works for you.

Can’t get the Tylenol One with Codeine OTC there either, it’s prescription only, as are a lot of our allergy drugs. You may want to have her check in a pharmacy to see what she can’t get, and bring her some of that.

I'm betraying my people here, I must admit, I much prefer M&Ms to smarties. Lol. I'm a traitor.

Better yet take a recipe for Butter tarts. With pre-made shells they are so simple to make. Here's one I found which is close to my favourite recipe.

They whip up in no time at all. All you need is a cookie sheet to put the tart shells on.

Take a look at the general Canadiana and Olympic merchandise at HBC, last year I got a fabulous pair of silver stud maple leaf earrings that were made in Canada and proceeds supported Team Canada for the Olympics. So see what treasures you see on there! (Bonus, jewelry packs light... )

Want a giggle? I order my bras from Amazon.COM! Or, if I'm heading to the States, Walmart.COM to pick up.

The brand and two style #'s I wear are so hard to find here. When I do, it's always black, white, beige... I went a little crazy when I discovered the States has them in beautiful colors!

I don't think I've ever seen them in Mtl but from the recipe linked above they look like sugar pies (tartes au sucre) except I've never seen a traditional QC sugar pie with raisins. If I cannot find them here I'll try to remember about them next time we drive to ON for some grocery shopping at Foodland or Sobey's,
