Canadian Buffoon European Vacation - 30/03 - Endings and Silver Linings

Thanks Jenn, (mind if I call you that? or I can call you CDF. or I can call you a cab.) I can't believe you feel so strongly about it!!

Nope, I don't mind at all. Don't need a cab though, I'm good!

And now you're thinking, "Why, oh why didn't I just keep skipping it?!?!"

Nah, it's been really interesting, now I need to go to Germany!

oooh, I love guessing games.
Okay.
ummmmmm...... uuuuuuhhhhh....

The Tibetans?

Nope!

Oh, drat! And I was so close, too!

Well, in the same continent, partly, at least!

A Baltic cruise sounds pretty amazing!
My folks and sister went to Russia a few years ago
(without me! Can you believe that? .... Well, when you get to know me, you'll probably believe it...
Wait.... I just insulted myself....:headache:) and they really enjoyed it.

It was pretty amazing, one of our best trips ever! (Then we went scuba diving in Cozumel to get the 10 year old DS certified, and now he swears that THAT was the best trip ever!)

You're welcome!

London was originally on the list, but due to time (and money!) constraints, we had to pick between England or Italy... and England lost.

And solely based on the food, justifiably so!!! (Sorry you Brits out there, your food sucks pretty bad! Except Beef Wellington, I like that, and fish and chips, without the chips, don't like potatoes.)

Venice is coming up in about two chapters.
I'll comment then.
But.... yup. Hot.

Well? Get on it!!!!!

Neither. I gave up modest a couple of years ago. It was way too exhausting. :lmao:

Good for you!
I, however, am a model of modesty that many can only dream of.

See what I did there?

So interesting. popcorn:: Here you are contemplating future vacations, the future of your marriage or any future ceremony and I had you "disappearing" somewhere around Ludwig's castle like a 48 hour mystery, future totally undetermined. Interesting. :rotfl2: :thumbsup2

Where would the fun in that be?

Oh Venice is coming. I can't wait. I'm singing Spirit of the West right now. And you can add drat to the swoon list. ;) I just realized that I lied when I said astute only.

How astute of you to realize that 'drat' is also on the list.

Somebody go pick her up off the floor!!!

I have been known to tell plenty of people to stop making an ash outta themselves.........hahaha!

Loving this thread! :cool1:

As long as one of those people is not me!

Oh, who am I kidding... it most likely will be me. :sad2:

A little late on the uptake here (boy things are busy this season!). But since Lisa has been bugging Pkondz about ADD, I might add that when I read this line I suddenly morphed the name to "lisaviolent" due to my mental image of the situation...

:lmao:

Lisa, you're not going to take that are you?

Oh, wait.... then that would be prophetic, no?

Nope, I don't mind at all. Don't need a cab though, I'm good!

Jenn it is then.... which is good, 'cause I think my fingers would get tired if I had to type out ColoradoDisneyFreak...

all the time.

Nah, it's been really interesting, now I need to go to Germany!

Okay! Have a good trip! Let us know when you get back.

Are you going to write a TR about it too???

It was pretty amazing, one of our best trips ever! (Then we went scuba diving in Cozumel to get the 10 year old DS certified, and now he swears that THAT was the best trip ever!)

Aw, Man!
I haven't gone Scuba diving in decades!

Miss it, too.

Don't miss the bone chilling cold of diving below the thermocline up here, that much though.

And solely based on the food, justifiably so!!! (Sorry you Brits out there, your food sucks pretty bad! Except Beef Wellington, I like that, and fish and chips, without the chips, don't like potatoes.)

That's our Jenn... making friends wherever she goes!
(As any Brit reading this rolls up his figurative sleeves...)

Well? Get on it!!!!!

Started!
Just loaded the pics.... now the hard part.
Writing it!

Gotta catch up a bit on other TRs first....
which is what I'm off to right now.

Hey, just cause I was vulnerable enough to share that I have a wee problem doing a kindergarten puzzle and some brain functions didn't get the prize at birth - well hardly makes me violent.

:badpc::badpc::badpc::badpc::badpc: :wave2:

Where would the fun in that be?

None. :confused3 :rotfl: But I was thinking of how much trouble, serious trouble :stir:, that you would be in for playing in the grotto.

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!

But I was thinking of how much trouble, serious trouble :stir:, that you would be in for playing in the grotto.

With whom?

And am I going nuts (DO NOT ANSWER THAT), or did you just change your avatar?

Still working on the chapter.
It'll probably be a slow day tomorrow, so it might be up then...
no promises.

<sigh> The year just had to end with a bang...
More like a grind and a fizzle.

Took Elle and a friend of hers last night to see Saving Mr. Banks
(Really enjoyed it)
On the drive there, the car was making a funny noise...
Then it was accompanied by a tinkling sound...
Which then turned into the heat not working (-31F/-35C)...
After the movie, about half way home the car.... stopped.
Got it started again <phew> and got home.
Fluid dripping out of it.
What looks like a shredded belt dangling under the engine.

Ah, well...
It's only money, right?
Right?

Right????

Somebody?

Hello?

Hopefully next year will start better than this one ended!

Ponzi, things can only get better from here.

Happy New Year!
pixiedust:

PS: had a talk with hubby tonight about retirement plans. Paris came up. I mentioned the Opera House that my DisBoard friend talked about. He said what?
Your dear boyfriend??????????

Your dear boyfriend??????????

I will never forget that night in Paris.
Marita looked especially beautiful as we strolled along the Champs-Élysées.
I held out my hand.
She grasped it tightly, yet gently, at the same time.
I turned to her and whispered, "Oh, Marita."
She smiled, a sad, whimsical little smile.
And she tilted her head, just so.
And she breathed, "Oh, Ponzi."
I took a deep breath, then all in a rush, I said...

"Really? Ponzi? Even now? Do you even know my real name? And why are you holding my hand?"
"You held it out to me!" She replied.
"Well, sure... but it was only to push that annoying mime out of the way."
I looked at Ruby... she was not amused.

Great. Now I've got to try and explain why Marita is madly in love with me.
You'd think she'd be used to women falling madly in love with me by now.
But you'd be wrong.

With whom?

And am I going nuts (DO NOT ANSWER THAT), or did you just change your avatar?

Do not answer that? :rotfl2::rotfl::rotfl2: So unfair.

Well your wit started out well for 2014, that's all we really care about. ;)

(Sorry about the $ and car and hope the day went well!)

Taken for a ride

Did I mention that Bavaria is picturesque?
Scenic?
Jaw droppingly gorgeous?

[/QUOTE]

Gorgeous. Just gorgeous. :thumbsup2

Wow, this just looks so peaceful. :thumbsup2 I think I've been watching too many Jason Bourne films, over and over and over, as I think I've been very ignorant about Germany in general. Because my head goes holy gloomy Batman whenever I imagine it, like the country is one place - like a dot. Like people say Canada is..... :badpc: Let's not even comment here because I have no idea why I'm outing my own ignorance. :rotfl2: Really.

Elle, who had insisted on a German restaurant, ordered a cheeseburger.

I just might have let out a little swear word as I laughed hysterically. That's priceless. She's priceless. :rotfl2::lmao::rotfl2::thumbsup2

Oddly enough, the beer section of the store was HUGE!

Oddly enough. :rotfl2:

I got my iPod.
Grabbed my chips and Coke.
Snagged a pillow so I could put my feet up.
Got all nice and comfy.
Opened the chips, arranged within easy reaching distance.
Popped open the Coke, placed just there.

aaaaaahhhhhh.......

And then I dumped the coke into my bag of chips.

Of course. :goodvibes Can't wait for the next update. CAN NOT. Seriously. Not being a polite Canadian.

Pkondz, what a terrific trifecta of chapters I just read!

Lugging the suitcase of evil....absolutely laugh out loud entertainment for me. I felt like I was reading one of DD1's books about this old woman who swallows a fly and then progressively increases the size of the food items she eats until she explodes. Just back to her normal size mind you....but you clearly conveyed the increasing agony you were experiencing.

I love the commentary about the girls making sure the various modes of technology were in working order on the train, compromising the view of the scenery. The kids do this ALL THE TIME and it drives me and DH nuts.

Yeesh, the lines for the Castle tickets were INSANE!! Thank goodness you had the foresight to plan ahead.

Have you ever watched the US version of The Office? There is an episode where Michael Scott and Dwight Schrute are using GPS for the first time. The voice enabled GPS instructs Michael to go straight into what clearly is a pond, but he insists he should follow the înstructions and of course literally drives into the pond. It's really funny to watch.

Love the comment about the grocery store, Ree Wee. It made me think of Nebo's fond penchant for the altered name of Publix.

Glad to hear you liked Saving Mr. Banks. DH and I are headed to see it tomorrow.

Love your illicit moment with Marita in France, especially the Ponzi part. Great, great stuff my friend. You never fail to entertain.

Back soon!! Same bat time, same bat channel. ;)

Elle, who had insisted on a German restaurant, ordered a cheeseburger.

I feel the need to jump to Elle's defense here. From our friends at Wikipedia:
Hamburger
A hamburger (also called a beef burger, hamburger sandwich, burger or hamburg) is a sandwich consisting of one or more cooked patties of ground meat (usually beef) usually placed inside a sliced hamburger bun
Etymology
The term hamburger originally derives from Hamburg,[2] Germany's second largest city, from which many people emigrated to the United States. In High German, Burg means fortified settlement or fortified refuge and is a widespread component of place names.
So you see, Lady Elle really was eating German food in your German restaurant.

However, as warning to Elle, wikipedia goes on to say:

Hamburger can be a descriptive noun in German, referring to someone from Hamburg (compare London → Londoner) or an adjective describing something from Hamburg.

So you should probably be careful asking what EXACTLY the meat is that you are eating when you order a hamburger in Germany...

Well your wit started out well for 2014, that's all we really care about. ;)

Well, you're half right.

Wait... I just insulted myself....

again

(Sorry about the $ and car and hope the day went well!)

So far...
Water pump and belt $480
After that's done, they'll tell me if there's more....

there's always more

Wow, this just looks so peaceful. :thumbsup2 I think I've been watching too many Jason Bourne films, over and over and over, as I think I've been very ignorant about Germany in general. Because my head goes holy gloomy Batman whenever I imagine it, like the country is one place - like a dot.

Well, seen from outer space, it's a dot.

Like people say Canada is.....

Nope, even from space... it's huge.
Mostly snow covered, though.

<sigh>

Let's not even comment here because I have no idea why I'm outing my own ignorance. :rotfl2: Really.

Mouth, firmly zipped.

I just might have let out a little swear word as I laughed hysterically. That's priceless. She's priceless. :rotfl2::lmao::rotfl2::thumbsup2

Yes. Yes, she is.
Although I may have been tempted to beat her with a stick, that day.

Of course. :goodvibes Can't wait for the next update. CAN NOT. Seriously. Not being a polite Canadian.

Soon... about half done, now.

Pkondz, what a terrific trifecta of chapters I just read!

Thanks!

Lugging the suitcase of evil....absolutely laugh out loud entertainment for me.

Oh, then you'll be vastly entertained in a later chapter... :sad2:

I felt like I was reading one of DD1's books about this old woman who swallows a fly and then progressively increases the size of the food items she eats until she explodes.

I will never forget my first experience with that.
It wasn't a book, though.

It was the muppets.

I don't remember which muppet was singing. (mighta been Kermit)
There was a silhouette of an old woman who would open her mouth and the corresponding critter would jump in.

She did explode.

you clearly conveyed the increasing agony you were experiencing.

If anything, I understated it!

I love the commentary about the girls making sure the various modes of technology were in working order on the train, compromising the view of the scenery. The kids do this ALL THE TIME and it drives me and DH nuts.

It bugged me for a while, then remembered that the only reason I didn't do the same at that age was because the technology wasn't around and reading in a moving vehicle made me feel sick.

Yeesh, the lines for the Castle tickets were INSANE!! Thank goodness you had the foresight to plan ahead.

::yes::

I would wager that most of those people didn't get to see the castle until much, much later... or not at all.

Have you ever watched the US version of The Office?

Not really. Maybe an episode or two, here and there.

There is an episode where Michael Scott and Dwight Schrute are using GPS for the first time. The voice enabled GPS instructs Michael to go straight into what clearly is a pond, but he insists he should follow the înstructions and of course literally drives into the pond. It's really funny to watch.

It's funny because some people have been dumb enough to do just about the same thing.

I think they come with warnings now, to not be an idiot.

Love the comment about the grocery store, Ree Wee. It made me think of Nebo's fond penchant for the altered name of Publix.

Please note that I did not resort to changing the name to what everyone was thinking. :rotfl:

Glad to hear you liked Saving Mr. Banks. DH and I are headed to see it tomorrow.

Let me know what you thought of it.

Love your illicit moment with Marita in France, especially the Ponzi part. Great, great stuff my friend. You never fail to entertain.

Is that a challenge?
I bet I can make the next chapter really dull and insipid, if you like?

Two things.
The wiki article does state that it's people who emigrated to the US.
And as for it referring to the people of Hamburg and her being careful...

That would explain the lederhosen buckle that was in the patty.

unbranded-fancy-dress--adult-lederhosen.jpg

And just as I was about to post this, got a call from the garage.
Oil leak from manifold gasket.
Tack on another $250

Nope, even from space... it's huge.
Mostly snow covered, though.

<sigh>

No, no, no - that's NOT what I meant. :badpc:

Can you tell that *someone* :rolleyes1 has to go to therapy in the new year because she gets a tad overheated when she's misunderstood. :rotfl2::lmao::rotfl2: It's like death to me. :lmao: ;)

Forget it, the Community Board is free. And I can practice getting misunderstood with each and every post. :thumbsup2

Anyway, I meant when people say Canada is this or that. Like Gander is like Toronto - like Winnipeg is like Sooke - like Antigonish is like Saskatoon.

Wow, this a fun game. :rotfl2:

Like we are all the same - environment/people.

I knew... but it was more fun to watch what would happen.

I once saw a comedian talking about this.

He was saying how when visiting... somewhere else... don't remember... doesn't matter... He mentioned that he was from Canada.
The response he got was, "Really? Do you know Bob? He lives in Toronto. He works in an office."

After the laughter died down a bit he related how he responded...
"Office Bob? Oh, sure. I know him.... He's dead."
