We will be visiting DisneyLand for our 1st time this Spring and staying at HoJo's....I understand that we will be a short walk to DL from there.

What about DCA? Should we also expect to be able to walk there?

DCA is directly from DL's maingate. You might need to take an extra 20 steps but once you're at DL's maingate you can pretty much say you're a hop skip and a jump from DCA.

Thanks Mommy!
I was just reading some of Hydoguy's guides and realized I should have started there, before I posted this question.

But I LOVE your hop, skip, and a jump analogy! As a 'mommy' of 3 myself, I can appreciate just how close that is! Yeah!

We are WDW veterans and just can't wait to experience Disney, California Style!!!

Well in that case, I think you'll love how "compacted" DL is. Both parks and Downtown Disney are all within walking distance, as is a huge selection of Hotels. :cool1:
Hydroguys tips are the BEST place to start but many on these boards know DL like the back of their hands so don't be afraid to ask questions. :)

I just realized in your signature that you will leave HoJo's just a few days before we arrive. Hopefully, we have made a good choice in hotels and times to visit.

We have family in SanDiego, and we will be visiting Legoland and possibly the zoo or Wildlife Animal Park as well. We've been to SeaWorld in Florida, so will probably skip it in SD. I'm trying to talk DH into more than 2 days at DLR and punting everything else in San Diego except Legoland.

Thoughts?

Well that's easy...as many days as you can get in DL the better. :rotfl:
I have yet to go to legoland or the zoo down there. We'll try legoland when my son is older. I know many on the boards have been to both so I know you can get some feedback there.
As for the time and hotel choices...I'm VERY excited about staying at HOJO's. After reading all the great things people have to say about the hotel and from what I've read on trip advisor I'm very comfortable with my pick of hotels. We went to dl last year in early March and the crowds were wonderful then so hoping for the same this year as well.

Oh its totally manageable!!! HOJO is just down the street from the main gate. Only about a 5 - 10 min walk. You would be there in no time flat.

I know nothing about Legoland b/c we've skipped it each time we've been there. The zoo is amazing; if your local zoo isn't terrific, or if you don't have a local zoo, I highly recommend their zoo. Be warned though, bring or rent a stroller, b/c it's a lot of up and down hill walking. NOT a flat zoo!

I love Seaworld and would go no matter how many times I'd been to it or others. We just bought the San Diego Seaworld fun card, which was the cost of one ticket and gives us all but 4 days of 2008 (and two days from our visit in 2007). We love seaworld. My brother and SIL, who are childfree and live in San Diego, joined just so they can see the Pets Rule show whenever they want to. :)

To me, Disneyland is THE theme park, and I haven't worked up enough interest in Legoland to bother going! I'm sure at some point we'll go, maybe when DS is 5 or so. :)

About the entrances, I don't know if you need this, but I'd like to try to help you with visualizing it. HoJo is on harbor, which is a street on one side of DLR. Over where Paradise Pier is, that's a parallel street to the other side. The entrance plaza is sort of in the middle. So if you're at Paradise Pier or at some other hotels "over there", you come in from one side, go through one set of security (bag check) after going through Downtown Disney, and end up in the esplanade, with DL on your left and DCA on your right. If you're coming from Harbor, you walk under a big disneyland sign (yay!) and go through bag check lines directly opposite the ones on the other side. Then you end up in the esplanade on the other side, so DCA is on your left and DL is on your right.

Once you get there it will make much more sense. :)

Ok, finally got it. This may help:

It will be a DIS family reunion.:grouphug:
We will be there the same time as MommywithDreams and this is our first to DL.

Yes! We're directly across from the Matterhorn!

Exactly what I was going to say. I was able to see the Matterhorn from my balcony at the HoJo, and I didn't even have a Disney view room! I stayed in building 2, which is about as far as you can get from the DLR entrance, and it took us probably about 7 minutes to get to the entrance and maybe another 3-5 to get to DL or DCA. Have fun!!

And here is a ariel photo of the whole area...

When WDW people ask me how far it is from DL to DCA I say it's like walking from Future World to World Showcase at Epcot...
