:cool1: Ok.. with free dining just around the corner, many of us will be over indulging a bit at all of our ADRs. (we deserve it right). But, the question is.. we can justify it by saying, we're walking it off, right??? That's what I say as I order my dessert. I wonder how many miles a person walks a day in Disney... and how many calories does an average person burn a mile? I think I read somewhere that in an average day a person walks 13 miles? What do you think? (I think it feels like 100 miles by the end of the day)..

All I can tell you is that I have NEVER gained weight while on vacation at WDW, and that includes this past January when DH and I did not spend nearly as much time in the parks as we usually do (we did however, eat like we usually do). I think that it's not crazy to think that you will walk off most, if not all, of the calories you eat while vacationing in the World!

Either way, whether you walk those calories off or not, I wouldn't be too concerned...You're going to WDW and don't have to pay for the food!! :cool1:

I went on the regular dining plan for three days, plus three days of cruise, didn't gain a pound.

I went on the deluxe dining plan for seven days, gained four. I can live with that.

I think it mostly gets worked off.

The only Disney vacation that caused me to gain weight was the cruise...

We walked 8-12 miles a day on free dining last year and didn't always get dessert. I think I still gained a pound or two. (I'm 47 and my metabolism is slowing).

This last trip in July, I only ate counterservice and a few snacks and lost 2 lbs.

I usually neither gain nor lose at WDW with the dining plan. Then again, I just don't eat that much and do not always finish what is on my plate (but you can bet I always get dessert:rolleyes1). I actually wore a pedomitor on one trip just to see. We walked between 6-14 miles depending on the day (but you ahve to remember it is mostly at a slow pace which doesn't burn as much). On the crusie I always lose a few pounds:banana:--I ALWAYS take the stairs and that seems to counterbalance all the goodies and then some;)

I only gained 1 pound with the dining plan and I ate everything including dessert (large portions too) but then again, I'm a big eater at home too.

We don't do dining plan anymore because we felt like we were eating more food than was healthy. Now DD and I split every meal (she's 15) and it's plenty of food for the both of us. We do this for both counter and table service.

Exception comes on marathon weekend after we've run the full/half - then it's time to indulge!

The last time I did the dining plan I was on WW and I actually lost 1.5 pounds that week. And I ate ALOT - much more than I normally would.

I don't know what you all are talking about...calories don't count in WDW :snooty:

(It's a fact...you should look it up!!!)

DH & I in 2002 put pedometers on us. We were there for a week. I think we walked about 15 miles.

And I don't think we lost a pound even sweating in the August heat.

I think that it depends on your regular level of activity. I am very active, so the walking in the parks might even represent less activity than a standard day at home. With that in mind, I know that I need to be careful.

My wife, on the other hand, is tiny, but not very active at home. The walking will crank up her metabolism while we are there and she tends to lose weight on these trips.

:worship::worship::worship: Thank you! I can't believe I didn't know that!

I suppose a lot of it does have to do with your metabolism... too many variables....

Ok.. forget walking it off... how many miles do you rack up? I'm really curious!

GASP...people WEIGH themselves after a vacation???

I bring my scale! If it says I am below what I started at I have dessert when it goes up a pound I skip dessert. Of course my meal is usually a salad of some sort. YES I am obsessive...I KNOW IT.

I have never gained a pound at WDW all that walking schlepping a heavy backpack keeps me from gaining.

I know this is nuts but....since I can't really weigh myself on vacation I always bring a pair of shorts that fit really well, they are almost tight. I know that if they get too tight I am eating too much. It kind of makes me relax knowing that I a not gaining.

I gained 5 pounds in 9 days @ WDW. We did a ton of walking, but I just ate way too much. We had the Quick Service Dining, and I took full advantage of the desert @ every meal. (In real life, who eats desert twice a day??) Not to mention the two snacks a day, and the refillable soda @ the resort... popcorn::

;) I want to flame everyone who says they don't gain! ... Lucky ! ;)
I wish I could just eat and eat, without paying for it later. It must be slow metabolism, because I definitley don't stop all day... I'm dragging or pushing 4 kids around until long after the last park closes. If I had to guess, I would say I do about 100 miles a day... But I'm definitely going to bring the pedometer next trip to see... It could be 1000.
