This is something I see my husband do often. He sprays pledge multi purpose cleaner on our counter top and cleans it with the same sponge we use to wash dishes with. I have never told him not to or objected, but I think that a sponge that is used for dishes shouldnt be used with cleaning spray that you clean windows furniture etc with. Or maybe I'm wrong and it all washes out when you rinse the sponge. Thoughts?

We have two sponges: one for the countertops and one for the dishes. I actually don't like sponges in general--even ones dedicated to dishes because they harbor so much bacteria, even under the best circumstances. We wash so few dishes by hand, though that the ones the sponge touches (skillets for instance) end up getting heated up.

Use seperate sponges

Full size sponge for cleaning, and then I cut one in 1/2 for dishes. It's easy for everyone to keep them straight. :)

(And of course, I replace them both regularly...)

I use a microfiber cloth on the counter and sponge for dishes. I don't think it matters much as long as raw meat isn't involved.

I think sponges are nasty, I don't use one. They harbor germs. I use dish cloths to clean my dishes and wipe down my counters, but never the same one for both, and I wash them in hot water after each use.
No right or wrong, but I had to laugh, we're all different.
I'm totally skeeved out by drippy smelly dishcloths. I won't even touch one. Sponges dry quicker, and I can trash them every few weeks.

I do't like sponges. I can't imagine using the same one to clean and then do dishes with it. I usea dishcloth for dishes and old ones for cleaning.

I use clorox wipes on the counter tops and a sponge for dishes. I have issues with using the same thing for both tasks, but my mom and sister use the dish sponge to wipe down the counters and stove after they finish the dishes. I suppose it's fine, but it seems icky to me.

I have a sponge for dishes (which I put in the microwave to disinfect, though probably not often enough) and a dishcloth for the wiping the counters with stronger cleaner.

LOL, I feel the same way about dishcloths.

I use one sponge for dishes and I pop it in the microwave every night.
I use a disenfectent spary and papertowels to clean the counters and tables.

I feel the same- I remember the musty smell of the always-damp dishcloth at my mom's sink. Yuck. I use a sponge for dishes, and put it in the dishwasher every time I run it. I use antiseptic moist wipes for cleaning countertops, stovetop, tabletop, and other wipe down cleaning.

I have two different colored sponges, one for dishes and one for countertops. I put worn out sponges under the sink to use for heavier duty cleaning with nastier chemicals. I throw them out when I'm done.

My dishcloths are not nasty smelly or drippy- I can't stand that either. I use them for a sink of dishes and into the wash they go. I wipe down the counter and into the wash. I have a ton of them and I throw them out when they start being constantly smelly. I can't stand that sour smell.

I'm no cleanliness saint in the kitchen, but I would never use a kitchen sponge with pledge. I don't wash a ton of dishes because it's usually just me during the week. I put most of my dishes in the dishwasher and run on the weekend. If I do need to wash anything, I bought some of those bounty paper towels that are impregnated with Dawn dish soap. They work really well, and I don't have to worry about sponges or dish cloths.

I am the queen of clean...
a sponge and a dish-cloth are two different things, with different uses.

I never feel that either of these are harboring germs or wet and yucky, because I am OCD about making sure they are clean and wrung out as dry as possible.
Then hang the dish cloth to dry, and set the sponge aside to dry.
(yes, when left wet and nasty this would be a problem...)
And, these are easily disinfected if it does become necessary.

I never would think to use a sponge to clean a counter.
Just by nature, this is not effective and would leave the counter to wet and smeared.
And I would also not think to use a sponge for everyday cleaning with that type of cleaner.
Yes, I might need a scrubby sponge for a certain heaver job with a cleaner, but either it can be totally rinsed and clean, or it gets trashed.

I do sometimes go behind my husband and my son... They do not have my queen of clean sensibilities!!!
With them, it is wipe, smear, throw the cloth or sponge or now-nasty hand/dish towel to the side.
They're done.

Men!!! Hahahahahaha!!!!

Now, what is germy and musty and DOES need disinfected are our dish towels.
They do not dry quickly, so they can stay damp... And, they are not necessarily used just for clean dishes or hands.
They can sometimes start to get that yucky smell... Even after thrown in the wash!
I have bought some white dish towels so that they can be washed with beach.

Thank you!! The thing is my husband will get mad if I say something to him, I might try the half sponge approach and maybe he won't take it as me trying to correct him. I don't understand why he always needs to spray a cleaner on everything when good ole fashion hot water and soap will do. I use paper towels alot myself, and I use white vinegar for almost everything, unplugging toilets to mopping floors to cleaning coffee maker. I am not crazy about sponges, I do put the sponge in the dishwasher every few days. My husband leaves butter on the counter for weeks :( He also will just rinse a glass out and put it back in the cupboard without really washing, or he will do this with a frying pan or something and you take it out and it will be all greasy yuck!!
