Can you use the pool prior to check in?

our trip is scheduled for Jan 2023, the airline keeps changing our flight and I just got an email stating it's been moved to 615am so we'll arrive at MCO around 915am then hopefully get to AoA within the hour.... trying to come up with a solid plan for arrival day (although I'm sure plans will change again) originally we were supposed to arrive around noon and I was planning dinner at Disney Springs once we settle in to hotel but I don't think we would spend several hours at Disney Springs...

can we check our luggage at bell services and go to DS before hotel check in if we want? can we use the pool before the official check in time (is there a public washroom we can use to change) what would you do to fill the gap? is early check in ever an option?

Yes. We did online check in and started getting messages around 9 am that our room was not ready but please enjoy the resort. I remember there was a washroom at the CBR pool because we swam after checkout and then changed clothes to eat lunch before we left. I'd assume all resorts would have something by the pool. Early check in is a possibility, but probably not that early. We've checked in between 1 and 3 before.

IMHO it's always worth stopping by the front desk to check in when you're early in the day (even if you've already done online check-in and entered your arrival time). It's certainly not always possible but you never know when a room may already be ready. At worst they know you're there/have your info confirmed, and off you go to enjoy the day while you wait. Also a good time to reconfirm any room/location requests, if applicable, or if you don't have any you can let them know you're happy with anything first available.

Enjoy your trip!

You are a resort guest at6:00am of ci date till midnight of CO date.
You do not access to your room that long but to all of resort.

The pool may be tricky. We only have winter for 6-8 weeks . January and February.
YOU may think it is ok to swim but CAST MEMBER will not. We have thin skin when it comes to the cold.

As others have said, yes, you can absolutely use the resort facilities, including the pool on your day of check-in. Depending on your tolerance for colder weather, you may find it too cold to swim, however. (the weather just fluctuates so much at that time of year). Other options include going to DS, as you mentioned, walking around AoA and/or Pop and exploring other resorts (RIV, BC/YC, BWI) via the Skyliner.

That doesn't matter. There was one trip we were the only family in the pool area, DD was the only one in the water. Lifeguards were bundled up in jackets.

We're going in late February and I'm not looking forward to potentially freezing because my kids can't pass up a pool/splash pad. I may be a new englander, but I also like being NOT cold.

Same for us once at Poly when my daughter was 3. It was 55 degrees and the lifeguards were in winter coats. Katie was the only one in the pool. I was fully dressed watching her from the zero entry area. She of course stayed in that area and had the best time as the only kid in the pool. I told her to be safe cause none of us were going to get in to save her lol. She was fine until she got out and about froze lol.

haha don't worry unless it's absolutely freezing we will be swimming, we are from Ontario Canada and will likely be under a foot of snow when we leave for airport! I went to WDW as a kid in late January one year and I remember one day it was like 65/70 degrees, all the locals were bundled up, we laughed at them we were in heaven 😂
