Can you use fastpasses...

We used our expired FP on Test Track, it was shut for 2 hours last time we went because we caught the edge of a tropical storm. No problems there!

It was off peak season though and there were still FP's available late afternoon which is probably why they weren't too bothered! I would be a little annoyed though if we went on a ridiculously crowded day, the FP line was longer than 15 mins and a family of 25 turned up with FP's which expired 5 hours ago... but I'm sure that would never happen ;)

I just got back a week ago and used expired fastpasses just about every time without much problem. The only time I ran into an issue was at Honey I Shrunk the Audience. We got the surprise fastpasses from the Soarin fastpass machines and made it over to HISTA within the time window...but when we got there, the CM told us the show was full. So she took a pen and initialed the fastpasses and told us we could use them for the next show & wrote the time. Well we walked around for a bit and rode the Figment ride, and by the time we got back, it was past the time the CM wrote on the fastpass. Now the CM had only written on one of the fastpasses, not the other 6 that we had...well when my dad tried to hand her his unwritten-on fastpass, the same CM looked at it and said "I'm sorry, this was for an earlier show" :confused3 . I quickly showed her the fastpass she had initialed and she the let us go through. I'm still not sure why she tried to turn us away, though...I wonder if it's because it was a "surprise" fastpass, because HISTA is a show with limited seating, or if it just so happened to be that particular CM?

Okay, though I would let ya know that I just got back yesterday and I saw them turning people away for expired fast passes often. I saw it on the safari, everest, and 1 other....can't remember what it was though! I never tried it, so don't know if they did it more often or I just happen to catch a few CMs on a bad day!

There has been some mention of Disneyland and how the system is not working out there. But there are key differences in the way the system is implemented and the proximity of the parks to each other out there that makes it far less likely that the late use of fastpasses at WDW will similarly make the system inneffective.

A significant number of DLR rides aren't even hooked to the system with the result that people can run around to several machines and collect fastpasses. There is a disconnect between DCA and DL's system. So after doing it at DL, they can go do the same thing at DCA. The parks are right in proximity to each other. It takes very little time to exit one and enter the other. Hence if one so chooses, one can get fastpasses to more rides out there in the first hour than one can obtain all day at WDW. And it gets even better. If you book through AAA, you get what's called an enhanced fastpass which effectively disconnects every machine. You could run around like a chicken with its head cut off and collect 1 fastpass for every ride in both parks right off the bat. Note you cannot get two fastpasses with one ticket for the same ride until the two hour or return time window is up. At WDW, Only 1 attraction isn't connected and you can't run around right off collecting fastpasses like you can out there. You have to wait two hours or until your return window opens to obtain another. The result is you won't have the sheer number of fastpasses in hand that you do out there and you won't have the sheer number trying to be used late. Obviosly if all one did the first half hour is round up each and every fastpass he could, they cannot possibly all be used on time.
