Can you transfer photos from apple laptop to pc?

My DH is getting an apple laptop and we were considering taking it with us to WDW to download the pictures from the camera. But, our computer at home that I do everything on is Windows will I be able to transfer them from one computer to the other without any problems?

Oh yeah, if you know how to share files on windows you could share a folder and transfer them, or you can also share files on your mac. You shouldn't have any issues. Congrats on the Apple! Personally, I'd leave the pics on the apple, iphoto is great and you can use it to burn to cd/dvd for backups.

Here is what the MacBook Pro user manual says (should be same for any Apple):

Transferring Files to or from Another Computer

If you want to transfer files or documents to or from another computer, there are several ways of doing it.

- You can easily transfer all your files using Migration Assistant and a FireWire cable (sold separately).

- You can connect to another Mac using a FireWire cable and start up your
MacBook Pro in FireWire Target Disk Mode. Your MacBook Pro appears as a hard disk on the other computer and you can drag files to it. For information about using FireWire to transfer files, see “Connecting Your MacBook Pro to Another Computer Using FireWire” on page 58.

- If you have an external hard disk drive, iPod, flash drive, or other data storage device that connects through a USB or FireWire cable, you can use it to transfer files.

- If you have an email connection, you can email your files to another computer.

- If you register for a .Mac account from Apple (fees apply), you can use it to transfer files. With a .Mac account, you get an iDisk, which provides Internet space for backing up and storing files so that other computers can access the files you transfer there.

- Using a recordable optical drive, you can record files for transfer on a CD or DVD disc.

- If you connect your computer to a network using Ethernet, you can exchange files with other computers on a network. You can access a server or another computer by clicking Network in the Finder sidebar, or by choosing Go > Connect to Server from the menu bar.

- You can create a small Ethernet network by connecting an Ethernet cable from your MacBook Pro to another computer’s Ethernet port. After you’re connected, you can transfer files directly from one computer to the other. For more information, open Mac Help and search for “connecting two computers.”

- You can connect to an AirPort Extreme wireless network to transfer files. For more information, see “How AirPort Provides Wireless Internet Access” on page 60.

- If you have access to devices that communicate using Bluetooth wireless technology, you can transfer files to other Bluetooth equipped devices. For more information, see “Using Bluetooth Wireless Technology” on page 61.
For general information about transferring files and documents, open Mac Help and search for “transferring” or for the type of connection you need.

I do not believe that you can directly connect the laptop to the PC and get them to recognize each other. Also, Macs save images differently than PCs so you need to make sure that you have PS setting set to save in Windows order rather than Mac order. I think the DVD/CD route is probably the easiest; just make sure you set it to record as Windows compatible.

Congrats on the Apple - you may decide to upgrade your PC to a Mac next time around! I made the switch and would never dream of owning another PC (though my hubby uses one attached to our network).

If you're not comfortable with setting up file sharing and all, you can always use a little USB drive to transfer the photos between the two. It might take a few passes (depending on the size of the drive), but it'll work and be very easy and straightforward.

Saving images shouldn't be a problem, jpg, gif, png, etc., are universal. I've never had an issue with PS images going from my mac to my pc and vice versa, and that includes psd files.

As far as transfering files go, if you already have a home network setup, then just do file sharing, all of the physical connections are done and you just have to deal with the software side. Most PC's don't have firewire, bluetooth is slow, and unless you're using 802.11N, a 100M ethernet (or 1G if you got it!) is going to be better than 54M wireless

as the others have pointed out, it's quite easy. the two easiest ways are via network or via usb external drive. the third way is by burning a dvd, which might kill 2 birds with one stone.

Thank you all for your help, I know how to transfer the pics, but since he was getting an apple I didn't know if the pics would be compatible. But, sounds like it shouldn't be a problem. Now if our tirp would hurry up and come.

If you go to save a file as a tif in PS, it will give you the option of saving in Mac Byte order or Windows byte order. You need to make sure you save them in Windows byte order. Other formats should be fine but if you burn CDs/DVDs to do it, you need to make sure your program burns Windows compatible CDs/DVDs.
