Can you TRADE Points with other members?

Let me try to describe a scenario (Now that I think about it, this is probably what transfers are for by design).

Let's say I know someone who has points I need and Boardwalk is their "home" resort. This person is looking points at BLT at the 11 month window and I have those. If we worked out a deal, could we do it as a transfer or is there another methodology for this type of transaction?

I guess we could treat it as a mutual "rent" situation to keep it off the books. That might be an option assuming the trust situation can be addressed between parties.

Is there another way or after starting to compose my question; realizing that a transfer is probably the way to go, is that the answer?

Nice try. DVD allows one transfer in or out per UY. Transfered points retain their UY and home resort status.

I think the mutual rental would be the best way, even if no $$ actually changed hands.

You would have to make the reservation for the other family in their name, using your points; the other family would have to make the reservation for you in your name, using their points. So yes, there would have to be a mutual trust factor involved.

Any imbalance of points could be handled with a transfer, which would use both families' one transfer for the year.

Bad assumption on my part. I learned something. I assumed that one transfer per year probably meant one in and one out. Now I know!

Thanks folks. Not sure what part of "one" I didn't understand since I was an applied mathematics major! :rotfl2:

The mutual reservations is about your only choice.

The rent/trade board even has a trade category to cover the exact situation you described.

Thanks Caskbill. Any predictions you're willing to let out of the bag about when we might see updates to your apps to include BLT? :cool1:

If it worked for reservation dates you could trade (transfer) “across use years” where one got say 2008 UY points and the other got 2009 UY points. But after the transaction neither could do any more transfers available for that year. In practicality trading reservations would likely be more practical

It also works if both parties have more than one membership.

If I decide I can't use them, I would so much prefer to "transfer" Developer Points rather than "rent them"...IMHO, so much less hassle or risk..

Am I correct, once you make a decision to "transfer" to another member, and MS "transfers" the points, the transaction is final..Renting on the other hand always puts the member at risk if the "renter of the points" backs out within the 30 day period..Then you are "stuck" with holding status...

Seems so much "cleaner" and "hassle free" to transfer..:goodvibes :goodvibes

Yes, that is correct once the transfer has been done it is final! There is risk in renting, but we rented most of our developer pts within about a week of putting them on the rent/trade board.:woohoo:

Yes, transfers are final transactions that cannot be undone. Regarding renting, I believe many members who rent have a "no refunds" policy to protect themselves against exactly the situation you describe. It also protects you against renters who book with one member and then continue to shop around for a lower price.

Kinda off topic but as I understand it, developer points cannot be transferred. They are essentially "dead" where they are when you get them unless you make a res and rent it to someone.

Did I miss something else? Am I wrong about this?
