Can you take a sleeping baby in a stroller to dinner?

Hi all,

We are taking our 7 month old on a cruise in September and have 2nd seating. Our plan is to put him to sleep and take him in the stroller to dinner. Our TA told us that Disney does not allow strollers in the dining rooms! :sad2:

He will be too big for the infant car seat and too small to hang out at 8:00 or later. I guess I am booking the nursery for as much as I can?

What do you guys think - has anyone taken their stroller into the dining rooms? If no, what do you do with a 7 month old at late dining? Also, sort of related does anyone know of a fully reclining umbrella stroller?

Thanks everyone!
Stefanie

I think you need a new TA. I've seen strollers in the dining rooms with sleeping kids of all ages. Feel free to bring it in there with you.

We cruised when our twins were 8 months old. There were a couple nights that they were sleepy during our dinner time. The dining staff never hesitated in allowing us to wheel the stroller (double stroller) to our table.

Thanks for this guys. Our travel agent is with Dreams - they have always been the best? Maybe she is new? I am glad to hear that! My Mom was ranting about how Disney is supposed to be for families! She will calm down now! :goodvibes

Just sailed on the Wonder in May, and brought the stroller in for DS to sleep. :thumbsup2

Strollers can be brought in....but one thing to consider is where your table is located...at some tables it may be more difficult to place a stroller without interferring with the path of the servers. You servers will do their best to accommodate your sleeping child. I have also seen strollers parked at the entrance to the restaurant (not with sleeping children though!! LOL!!) when it is not needed at the table.

Not only are strollers allowed, servers will often make a "bed" out of two chairs for toddlers/preschoolers who fall asleep in the dining room so that their parents can enjoy their dinner. Your Mom is right- Disney is for families and they will certainly accommodate yours! Enjoy!

The TA is right.... They lock all parents with strollers in the brig and give you mickey shaped pieces of bread and water ;-)

You'll be fine. No worries.

John@dreamsunlimitedtravel.com is the one who is in charge of DU.

We last took the kids to dinner in strollers when they were 6 & 8. We got them dressed and they slept there for at least an hour against the wall. They woke up and had their dinners and were ready to enjoy the show and the rest of the evening. Our first cruise DS fell asleep at the table on formal night and the server wrapped his dinner up in foil as a swan. He slept the entire 2 hours at age 5 with his head on the table in his suit and tie.

Our servers made the "beds" out of the chairs for our sleeping twins (the chairs had big arms so they could not roll off). He put a clean tablecloth on the bottom, and covered both of them with a tablecloth as well. He was worth his weight in gold (LOL!!!).

We booked the nursery so that if our son woke up at dinner he wouldnt annoy the other diners if he was fussy while we were eating. Just saying...

My absolutely perfect baby would never annoy anyone - haha! I did book the nursery for nights 2 - 6 for 2 hours each night. He usually goes to bed at 7 and sleeps pretty hard, so I am hoping he would just sleep the whole time. I have trust issues with my kids so I would rather he stay with us, but we will see! I know the nursery will be great though, just tough for me to leave them. (ok, not so much my 5 yo, but a 7 month old is harder!) Our other plan is for someone to take him back to the room if needed and get their dinner "to go" by me or hubby.
Thanks everyone!

I took my stroller into every dining room on the Magic and my server was actually ready for it and cleared a space for it. My toddler was asleep a couple times too. Don't worry they totally cater to your needs...especially if they want a good tip.
Have fun!

MY kids are a bit older (7 and 4) so I can't relate 100%. And I forget what it was like having such little ones. But you ask "CAN I"? Even if you can, maybe you should ask "SHOULD I"?
Will it interfere with your eating? What about the other people at your table, or near your table?. Sure you child is a heavy sleeper, but have they slept in a stroller, in a dining room on a cruise before? Probably not so you can't be 100% sure how they will be.
I would suggest that you be considerate of the other people around you.
If the stroller is in the way, remove the stroller and place the child on seats like the others said
If you child wakes up and is cranky, leave the dining room with them as to not bother those people around you.
If your child is awake, having an awesome cruise and enjoying every minute of it, let them enjoy dinner too.

We took DD's stroller to dinner with us every night on our last cruise. Some nights she was awake for dinner, most nights she was awake, but got sleepy towards the end of the meal and rested in the stroller and 1-2 nights she slept through the whole meal. There was never a problem having our stroller in the dining rooms. We had a table near the wall and usually kept the stroller against the wall. You may have to walk into the "alternate" entrance for Lumiere's/Tritons, because the main entrance has a staircase. We walked into the restaurant that way anyway since we had a wheelchair with us as well.

Thanks everyone for the responses. Like I said, if he sleeps in the stroller then we will keep him with us. Otherwise I booked the nursery for the 10 hours we have for 2 hours each on 5 nights and if needed hubby or I will take him back to the room and get food to go. No one wants to sit with a crying baby at dinner, especially me - not to worry.

Okay, I am not trying to be nasty, really I'm not.

I understand if a child starts out eating and awake and all that, and then falls asleep into the meal.

But.....if the child is going to be asleep the whole time, and you know they are going to be sleeping the whole time, it just seems silly to me to drag the baby to dinner, when you could utilize the nursery.

Well, one reason could be that there are not any spots available in Flounders. Another could be that the child is too old for Flounders, like ours were. They had already slept an hour or so in the room and we knew that they would be waking up after another hour, so we dressed them, put them in the stroller and went to dinner. I know when the kids were baby's we would plan dinner out so that they WOULD be asleep during dinner when we got to the restaurant. A sleeping baby really doesn't bother anyone IMO and allows the parents to enjoy a meal without entertaining a baby while eating. You never really know when a child will wake up or go to sleep for that matter since it seems they are always changing their schedules.
