Can you share???

We're doing the dining plan for the first time for our November trip. I KNOW it will be difficult for us to eat all that food. Can adults share? For instance if we're not hungry enough to each get an appetizer, entree and dessert and we order one and split?

Surely they will allow this but I want to be sure.

Thanks

I can't see why they wouldn't allow it....although some places may charge a nominal fee for an extra plate...not sure though.

Disney restaurants are rather generous in that way, typically not charging a fee for an extra plate, when guests share. However, guests are expected to provide gratuities commensurate with what would be appropriate if both guests ordered meals, since the amount of work necessary to serve two guests sharing is the same as (or perhaps more than) the work necessary to serve just one guest. In the case of the Dining Plan, the additional gratuity should be paid out-of-pocket, since the Dining Plan doesn't include such additional gratuities.

We just came back from our free dining weekend. We share throughout the weekend (except at Ohana which was a price per person), and never had a problem. Several times we were asked if we wanted them to split the order for us.

Even splitting meals, we usually left some food behind.

Just returned 2 days ago. We were 4 "adults" (kids are 10 and 14). We shared 2 credits among the 4 of us at the following restaurants:

*Whispering Canyon Cafe

*Planet Hollywood (also had a free voucher for 1 meal, so we used 2 DDP credits and paid for dd10 oop)

*50's Prime Time Cafe

*Spoodles - this was our last meal and we only had 2 credits left. We were going to have the kids stay in the room and order pizza, but they wanted to come, so we explained this to our server and her tone changed immediately. She had been friendly and sweet to us, making nice chit chat and then turned COLD as ice when I mentioned we were sharing.

At all other restaurants, we gave an extra tip when sharing, but I refused to do this at Spoodles because our server barely spoke more than 10 words to us after we told her we were sharing. She literally put the food on the table without speaking. The only time she did speak was when I asked her a question about a dessert and even then, she really didn't answer me. It was the rudest I've ever been treated at Disney. I almost spoke to the manager about her, but decided not to because I knew it would embarrass my kids.

I will tell you her name tag said Deborah on it.

Other than Spoodles, we had no trouble sharing and even with sharing, we were stuffed!!

If you are planning on going to a signature restaurant that requires 2 TS credits, then I understand sharing. But if not, then why share? You each get 1 TS per day of your vacation. If you shared a TS one day, then when will you ever use up the extra TS credits? I found some appetizers large to share, but others were not that large to share. Also if you are full after your appetizer and entree, just skip dessert or share one dessert. You can easily share your CS credits and then save your appetite for dinner.

Yes, we shared CS and TS meals. Recently back from 10 nights. We had 3 meals a day and still had alot of CS meals left over. Our DS (19) only ate 1CS most days so we had to use up his meals,

I sorry to hear about the server at Spoodles. We ate here and it was wonderful. We did not share here because we needed to use up our TS's. The waitress did suggest all the expensive items but we both ordered pasta. We did a 8 day cruise before this Disney trip so we were fooded out. LOL

Our reason for sharing has to do with the amount of food. We don't plan on sharing every single meal, but I cannot imagine eating an appetizer, entree and dessert at most of my meals. There is no way. Dining plan or not. We do this a lot not because we're being cheap but because we like to practice portion control when we eat and I don't like the idea of wasting food. I suspect we'll share both CS and TS although not every single time. We went out to eat this weekend and we were STARVING. So, our eyes were bigger than our tummys. We ordered an appetizer of baked brie to share, plus our entree, plus we shared dessert. I was MISERABLE full and I hate that feeling. My DH has lost 75 pounds and he did it through portion control vs a fad diet like Atkins.

That's our reason. I hope we have an easy time sharing. And, of course, we'll throw in extra tip $$ for great service. sharing or not.

I think sharing is a great idea. Me and DH are thinking about doing it while we are on the dining plan. We were thinking about paying oop for an appetiser so we could have one each, and sharing an entree and dessert. This allows us to use a ts for backyard barbecue and still get a nice meal everyday and we could also have character breakfast one day early morning then share a nice meal at night. I don't see why you cant share. If you were paying oop then lots of people share appetisers ect. so what is the difference? Only concern would be if as mentioned before servers are not as nice, this would spoil disney expereince so heres hoping it doesn't happen. :dance3:

Our reasons for sharing included that we ate a TS on both our arrival day and our departure day and we did the Spirit of Aloha dinner show as well. We had 32 credits for our 8 night/9 day stay and used them like this:

*Day 1 - 2 TS credits (sharing among 4 adults at WCC)
*Day 2 - 4 TS credits (teens ate at Alfredo's and adults ate at LeCellier)
*Day 3 - 4 TS credits (all ate at LTT)
*Day 4 - 4 TS credits (all ate at Wolfgang Puck Cafe)
*Day 5 - 2 TS credits (Planet Hollywood)
*Day 6 - 8 TS credits (Spirit of Aloha)
*Day 7 - 2 TS credits (sharing at 50's PTC)
*Day 8 - 2 TS credits (sharing at Spoodles)
*Day 9 - 4 TS credits (1900 Park Fare breakfast before going home)

It worked well for us and we loved being able to enjoy so many different table service restaurants. We based our sharing on restaurants where we knew the portions were huge. Even with sharing, it is SO much food at TS restaurants!

Interesting--I know we had a different server (because ours was a guy), but he was snippy and hurried from the moment I said "dining plan" until we ordered and it became clear we were not sharing and were ordering alcoholic drinks (then he defrosted--a little). But then I had a run-in with the chef, and between that, our server and the menu changes, it's clear to me Spoodles as a whole has some serious attitude about the DDP. It's too bad, because the food was good, but I doubt we'll return, at least not on the DDP or during free dining.

Edited to add: Almost forgot the OP's original question. CS there was definitely a lot of sharing going on (especially in my family), and I didn't really notice it much at TS meals (probably too busy with my own food!), but I did see 5 adults share 3 credits at Rose and Crown without incident.

Great :guilty: ....Spoodles is booked for our last night and we were planning on sharing 2TS for DH, DS10 and myself!!! I don't want a snippy server ruining our last Disney meal!!! :sad2:

:confused3 Anyone know if the attitude is the same at ESPN or Big River Grille?

I've found that attitude varies by server and even by patron. I've seen other patrons of my waiter have a really miserable time, while I get stellar service. I've read glowing reviews recently of the service folks have received at Spoodles, so either different servers are different or the same servers are providing different service to different patrons.

At WCC did you order from the menu to share?

Yes, dh and I shared the nachos (and asked for the chili on the side since he likes it and I don't and it came in a separate bowl, so it was like getting 2 appetizers) and we shared the steak and marshmallow cheesecake (which was so good). Our girls shared the nachos (minus the chili) and the chicken pasta and the worms in dirt dessert.

All way yummy and Allison was our server (our second time having her) and she was a hoot as always!

For us it's because we eat healthy. We don't need three appetizers, entrees, and desserts at each meal. It's a waste of food and a horrible example for our eleven year old.

I was trying to decide if this would work for DD12 and I when we are there in March 07. Since she is 12 she is an "adult" and loves the adult meals but she only eats kid size portions, however she eats 6 times a day. (She is very tiny and ADHD so she eats small meals alllllll day long.) I was thinking we could use the CS for breakfast, split one TS for lunch and split one TS for dinner along with the snack option I would only need to buy her one nighttime snack OOP.

I am a little tired tonight but when I read this my first thought was......EEWWWWWWWWW! lol Then I realized that you shared the steak and you also shared the marshmallow cheesecake....lol :lmao: :rotfl:

OK.....going to get more coffee now :surfweb:

Many places offer salads and soup as appetizer and fruit or sorbet as dessert, how is that unhealthy.
If one goes to a buffet, one does not eat everything, offered. No one is making anyone finish every bit of the meal.

Because not everyone gets salad and sorbets on vacation. I'm not sure we would. And we don't (in general) do buffets for just that reason. We set an example for our daughter and that means not overeating - even on vacation. Even just three entrees would be too much food. I just refuse to set that example for my eleven year old. YMMV
