answers to my pool hopping question have got me thinking.

My dh had forgotten about the great pool at POR when he stayed there before we met.

and since we're having breakfast at boatwrights he suggested we hop on over to the pool after for a couple of hours

however, check out at OKW (our second week resort) is at 11am.

can we request a later check out so that we have time to return and have a shower before we leave?

No, DVC resorts do not allow late check-outs, as they operate at nearly full capacity and they need to get the rooms serviced. There are some showers that you can use in the restrooms near the main pool to freshen up and change before your flight. I guess you'd use pool towels.

I have seen some posts by people who were impacted by people doing self extensions on their checkout times. Not happy campers. :sad2:

They have to clean the room and get it ready for the next guest. So, no, one cannot request a later check out time.

You could, however, reserve the villa for one more night and then leave whenever you want to. Just not stay the night.

We have been allowed late checkout only once.

It was just this past November at VWL when DD7 woke up vomiting at 4am on the day we were scheduled to check out. Since she was still vomiting at 11am and we were clearly going to miss our flight, the front desk allowed us to stay in the room until 1pm. We were then moved into the main lodge.

I begged and pleaded for them to allow us the extra time until she was well enough to move. I went to the front desk and thanked them profusely for allowing it.

P.S. - She was diagnosed with strep throat after a trip to the hospital that afternoon.

In that circumstance, I would not mind in the least having my check-in delayed. I am glad that under your unusual situation, there was a little lee way (I hope that is how it is spelled!).

solution solved - we're going to check in to POR before the rest of our trip instead of staying at daytona beach

The only time I got an extention, and by two hours, was when we got back from breakfast we found we couldn't get into our room. By the time we got it all sorted out with the front desk and new keys issued we were able to get into our room near 11:00 am. They did tell us to take our time, but we were out of there in two hours. We would have been out by 10 if the foul up didn't happen.

It was just a matter of finishing what little was left to pack, take it to the car and showering. Good thing the majority was packed the night before.

Luckily we were driving, so there wasn't any missed flights to worry about.

I have done this and if you have the points its really a nice way to end the trip LOL! I especially like it if I have an evening flight....

actually just thinking - would we receive a discount at POR being DVC members? or is that just for DVC resorts paid on cash?

if that's the case it would be cheaper for us to stay onsite instead of daytona beach.

making it even more something thing i think we'll do.

No DVC discount on rooms at non-DVC resorts. You mentioned POR, and do you know that there is a very nice changing/shower/locker facility right near the pool? We used it to change before going back to our resort.
