Can you purchase meal or snack plan if you are with a group(band kids)?

We will be at WDW April 4-11. As a family we have been there many times. My DH and DS are traveling with the band. They are getting a meal voucher for 1 meal a day. One of my son's friends said that he is purchasing a snack plan. I have no idea what he is talking about. The band is not staying on property. Does anyone know what he could be talking about? The band leader hasn't said anything about being able to purchase anything else.

If he's not on property they can't get a dining plan, so I have no idea. There's no snack only dining plan anyway.
