Can you please explain to me about DVC?

In Cruise Chat tonight, I got to talking to Carol about DVC and now I am curious as to how it works...How you go about buying into it and such...Is there a thread that tells this stuff already?

Also, how do you like it? Is it everything you expected it to be...We go to Disney usually 3 times a year so I think that DVC would be worth it to us...Can someone give me the ins and outs of this?

Wow! 3 times a year. If you enjoy staying onsite and would like to pay less for much bigger rooms, dvc is for you
To get started, read the FAQ on the top of the board. Then you will have specific ?'s. There is a sunday night dvc chat.

Just to start you off, disney is currently selling beach club villas, which opens in august, hilton head, and vero beach. You can also buy old key west, boardwalk, and wilderness lodge through resales. There is a link to the timeshare store atop this forum. It is the same as through Disney, except you can't buy new resorts(beach club), it is cheaper, you pay closing costs(about 500), and you don't get disney financing. Beanie....three times a year is impressive indeed!

Do you stay on-site? If so, do you stay in moderates or deluxe resorts? If you compare DVC to the value resorts like All Stars then it's probably not as good of a deal.

But measured against moderates and the deluxe resorts, it makes a lot of sense. Especially as often as you go.

Come back and ask questions...you've definitely found the people who can answer almost any question you can think of!

LOL...don't be too impressed, my parents live down there, so we don't have too much expense sometimes...but I love to stay on-site...We have stayed at Wilderness Lodge, Yacht Club, Beach Club, Carribean Beach and Contemporary...I love Wilderness Lodge, it is my favorite!

I also want to Cruise someday and Carol said points could be used for that!! So, I really want to look into this more... Thanks for the responses, I appreciate them!

In addition to the FAQ here and getting answers to all your questions in these boards, you can also check out DVC offical site .

At that site you can request information, you can also call and request a book/video set.

But you really can find all about DVC here, as I did recently. so when I went down in Jan and met with my sales guide for the preview, I was an easy sell! I had almost no questions for her as I found everything out here.

AND ALSO if you do call and talk to a sales guide don't worry about them giving you a hard sell sales pitch.

Beanie, You might want to know that until June 1 Beach Club villas (this is a DVC resort) is selling for $75 per point--you have to buy at least 150 points--and it comes with a free vacation at any of the regular resorts(not Grand Floridian). This is a good deal if you like Beach Club, although you can get some cheaper groups of points for the other resorts if you have your own financing. I didn't, so I am purchasing 150 points thru Disney at $110 per month for the next 10 years, although they are ok with early payoff's. Hope that helps a little.

Its even more attractive if you have family down there because you could stay the weekend nights with them and not use nearly as many points (weekends are many more points).

We bought into it about 5 years ago,and consider it one of the best things we ever did!!!
We bought 200 points at Old Key West, and took the 10 year plan to pay it off. That isn't to say it's going to take us 10 years to pay it off, but that way, you get the cheapest monthly payment, so in those months that are a little tight(ie-around the holidays)you pay just the required loan payment amount, and during those months where you may have alittle extra floating around, you pay a little extra.

My DH, who is a relator, looked into it every which way from Sunday, and determined that if you are going to go to WDW at least every other year, it is well worth the investment overall. You get a room that is at least the quality of a deluxe(if you stay in a studio style unit), and once you have paid off your initial loan, your only yearly expense is the dues/common charges, which when you compare that amount to what you would pay for a week in a deluxe, you're saving money. He even calculated in raises in both dues and the cost of a hotel room.

We are actually looking into buying more points...we're in the "how many and where" phase right now.

As I stated earlier, it is a decision we have NEVER regretted!

Well, I bought into the DVC last May, and am most likely going to add-on at the BCV already. I guess that means I kinda like it Infact, last year we were so impressed with the tour, we signed up on the spot (I'd done my research from this board already you see).

From where you've already been staying, and the frequency of your trips I'm sure it would work out cheaper long term, and DVC rooms are so much nicer as well.

This year I'm staying 9 nights at BW in August, I know for a <i>fact</i> that I'd never be able to justify the cost of that if I was on a cash reservation. Just one of the things that makes DVC so worthwhile for me personally
