Can you pack aerosol sun screen in your checked luggage?

I am packing, we leave early tmw May 6th. Flying out of DTW into MCO. I really want to bring some of the new aerosol (sray.) sun screen (Coppertone continuous spray.) It works great. However my brother says you can't pack any aerosol . I know I pack shaving cream every time with out a problem, maybe even hairspray in the past.

Has anyone packed this and had problem with it? I guess I could just buy it there, but it was cheaper here and I have 3 bottles (only brining one.)

Still I would hate to have it red flag my luggage or cause problems. (or have it taken, but that really isn't too big of a deal it is only $6 after all.)

DH thinks I should pack it. (he is cheap and doesn't want to buy new.)

Any one with experience on this?

Are you sure it's aerosol? I thought it was some different technology that made it continuous spray. Anyway, I don't know. I mean, I packed it (coming home, and your DH is right - it'll cost twice as much if you buy it at Disney!) but I never completely unpack, so I don't know if it's still in my suitcase or if TSA took it...

Packed three cans of Nutragena Continuous Spray Suncreen in a zip lock bag an tossed them in the suitcase on my recent trip to MX. They made it both ways without a drop lost.
Love the continuous sprays, so easy to apply, especially with sandy hands! Enjoy your trip!

Well it is still sealed, unopened so I am going to give it a try. 6 oz all together. I know people have had problems when brining bug spray to jamaica and things like that.

It is in my luggage, I will let you all know next week how it went. :sunny:

I would just suggest putting it into a ziplock ....definitely can't hurt if the can decides to get "rowdy" on the flight! :rotfl:

have a GREAT trip!!

I took 20 cans of it spread out between 2 checked bags and my carryon on our long trip last year. No problems at all.

Holly Cow NotUrsula, that is a lot of sun screen!

We just got home. The sun sceen made it just fine. It was a god sent of the beach too. :teeth: :sunny:

How long will a can last you? I only bought 1 can for 5 people that are staying for 8 days. Do I need to buy more?

For adults who are out in the heat all day in summer, one can per day per adult. Little kids will knock one out in two days.

20 cans was 8 days for 3 adults and one child, some of that spent driving and indoors, where we didn't need it.

I admit that the continous spray stuff seems to go faster then another other kind, but I still think 1 can per adult per day is a lot. We used up a can in the week, but we did use other sun screen also. I really like it for my arms and legs, back. It is much faster. We never got sun burned and we were out in the sun a lot. They are around $6 a can. That can add up fast.

tchrrx, I would think you will need at least 2 cans, maybe more if that is the only kind you use. Maybe a can a person, for 3 or 4 days. It depends on how many times you replay. But then again for that many people and days you would need more then one normal bottle of sun screen.

Well, our skin tone has a lot to do with it -- pale red hair, lily-white skin. My offspring and I will burn in 15 minutes in full Florida sun. We spent half of that trip at the beach, and we swim a lot.

I've found that to really ward off sunburn, we must reapply no less often than every 2 hours, and to be on the safe side I usually go for 90 minutes. The AMA says that for protective coverage, an adult needs 1 oz. of sunscreen per application. 12 hrs. in daylight / 2 hr. intervals = 6 applications. Therefore one 6 oz. can is good for about a day for me. (I burn through lightweight clothing, btw. It has to go all over.)
