It is indeed a scary movie. Apparently it was actually toned down a bit during the editing process, but it still hits pretty hard. I watched it with my teen kids recently (for nostalgia’s sake), and I’d forgotten how dark it gets. Definitely not for the little kids! But it is a good movie.

I heard that when they made it, they were trying to appeal to teenagers.

I was I high school when it was finally released on VHS. I had a friend that hated Disney movies because they were happy musicals. I made him what The Black Cauldron. He loved it! Anytime some complains about not liking Disney movies, I make them watch this one.
