Can you get upgraded from a GTY 11A mid to a 9d when you don’t want that location?

I booked a GTY 11A which is Mid deck 6 and 7, for a Europe trip on the Magic because one daughter gets motion sickness and she uses stairs for the teen club. We do not want a lower deck. The next category up is a 9 D on deck 1. Can you put in a request not to be “upgraded” to a lower deck or location?

Basically if you need specific locations, GTY is not the way to go. Booking that you are agreeing to let them put you wherever. With a specific cabin reservation I have been able to put “Do not upgrade” on the reservation, but when I had a GTY I was told you cannot make that request.

No, by booking GTY, you forfeit any say on where you end up as long as they give you at least the category you booked. In this case, you could be in anything between your 11A and the Walt/Roy suite.

It’s one of the 9 day cruises to Greece. We were very lucky to get an 11A as it is essentially sold out and this popped up.

You will just have to hope for the best. You cannot make location stipulations when booking GTY.

On the plus side, unless you are leaving from or returning to Barcelona (I don’t have the itineraries memorized), you will not be crossing the Med where there is a chance of pop-up storms. Should be fairly calm water.

That doesn’t change my previous reply, but on such a popular cruise, the odds of being upgraded instead of them trying to sell a higher category stateroom after a cancellation are slim.

We have never sailed in an inside but it is port intensive and for Canadians, even the insides are very $$$$$$. We are just thrilled to have any kind of reservation and would be happy to stay an 11A. I just would prefer not to be on a very low deck as my youngest uses the stairs at night coming from the club. The 11A category isn’t far from the Edge and Vibe.
