Can you enter/exit through north access road behind MK?

I used GoogleMaps to check distance and it showed a quicker way off the Florida turnpike through a back road entering Disney property from the north access road behind MK. Can the general public use that entrance? Normally I just go to I-4 and come down south using the "normal" entrance from I-4 onto World Drive. Since our last day may be at MK, it looks like it would be much faster to leave via this road rather than back to I-4.

I am not sure where you would enter to drive that way, however I believe you can do that because I saw a video on Youtube of someone driving that way behind the Magic Kingdom and Disney University, going in the opposite direction you are talking about.

Yes, that road is open to the public but it will be a little tricky getting to it if you're leaving the MK parking since the parking lot exit road heads south. Be in the far left lane as you exit and pass the Speedway. As you approach the Hess Station/Car Care Center there is an unmarked U-turn area on the left but DON'T use that one as it will just send you back into the MK parking lot. Instead wait for the next opportunity to make a double-left across the median of World Drive and head back north. You'll approach the MK Toll Plaza and use the far right lane (but not the bus lane). Tell the attendant that you're going to the north exit and you'll be waived through. Keep to the far right and drive north like you're headed to the Contemporary Resort. But continue past the hotel and you'll pass Space Mountain and eventually come to a stop sign. Turn right and you'll go past the monorail barn and Disney University and eventually reach Reams Road at the Disney employee exit. Turn left and follow that road. It curves all over the place and eventually changes names to Fiquette Road and then County Road 535. Follow CR 535 north until you reach TOLL 429. Turn right and get on the toll road north bound (Toll $.50) and in 3 miles you'll be at the Turnpike. So yes, it can be done.

But I think much faster would be to leave the MK parking lot and head south on World Drive and then turn right onto Buena Vista Drive like you're headed to the Coronado Springs Resort. Just past CSR is the new Western Way road which will take you directly west out to TOLL 429 where you can pick it up northbound to the Turnpike. All 4-lanes and very few traffic lights this way. The toll using this routing is $1.25 to the Turnpike.

Good luck!

I'd take the direct route LOL

That's also a nice back way out if you are heading towards the Windermere area. There used to be a guard back there in the day for CM's comming in but you could still leave that way.

I agree. Western Way is much better, since Reams Rd. is a 2 lane all the way until it becomes 535.

We minimize the tolls altogether, and take 192 west to 27 north.

There are plenty of back roads on WDW property, but if you're not familiar with them, they are neither quicker nor easier than the main roads. In fact, you're more likely to get totally lost and take twice as much time to get out.

When leaving from MK and heading for Florida's Turnpike, your best route using major roads is to head for Western Way take SR429 north to the Turnpike, as KingBob suggested.

1) Leave the MK lot normally and head down World Drive. Follow directions to the Coronado Springs resort.

2) When you get to CSR, you will be on Buena Vista Drive. Keep going PAST CSR.

3) The next traffic signal past CSR is Western Way. Turn right.

4) Proceed on Western Way about 2 miles, until you come to the entrance to SR429,the Daniel Webster Western Beltway.

5) Take SR429 north about 10 miles, until you come to Florida's Turnpike.

Also depending on your timing Floridian Way/N World Drive close 15 minutes before Wishes until 10 minutes after Wishes. I learned that the hard way trying to get to Windermere one night.

Floridian Way is on the west side of MK and it does close for the Wishes fireworks show from the Grand Floridian Resort northward. North World Drive which is the road I described that runs along the Contemporary Resort and Space Mountain is on the EAST side of the MK and does not close during the fireworks shows.

I want to go to "The Villages", from Downtown Disney. Would Western Way to SR429 to Turnpike North be the way to go for us too. I was going to go back via 4 to the Tpk. I will be travelling at 12 noon on Sat June 27th.

They really should though. I was leaving that way one night during the fireworks, and every time one would go off, my car would lift off the road. It was one wild ride, and I've never left that way during fireworks again.

I would agree with the advice that if you are parked in the MK/TTC lot, it's a lot more trouble than it's worth to try to go out that back entrance to get to the turnpike. It will actually be faster to just go down and pick up Western Way. It's all well marked, multi laned, and the speed limits are higher. The only time I've used the back entrance is if I'm at one of the MK resorts, which kind of puts you on that road loop to begin with.

"The Villages" - near Lady Lake.

Do not go using Western Way - it would be idiotic...and time consuming...to do so.

Just pick up I-4 east to the FL Turnpike north toward Ocala - then, from the Turnpike, pick up Rt 25/27 north through Leesburg continuing on 25/27 north to Lady Lake.

From Downtown Disney, I-4 is the best, quickest, and most efficient way to get to the Turnpike. Downtown Disney is practically on top of I-4; going any other way would entail 15-20 minutes of internal WDW roads first. But if you leave Downtown Disney, follow Hotel Plaza Blvd. to SR 535, turn right, and immediately get on I-4 Eastbound, you'll be to the Turnpike in about 20-30 minutes, depending on how many red lights you get stuck at on Hotel Plaza Blvd.

So, unless you specifically want to take the longer, roundabout, scenic route completely through WDW property, take I-4 and save yourself a lot of headaches.

LOL. I roll down my windows when I'm fortunate enough to drive through that area during Wishes!

thanks for the suggestions.... no backroads for me...
