Can you do DDP when staying off, then on property?

Here's our situation: Kids watch Nickelodeon and demanded we go to the Nick Hotel  . So we will be doing that for 3 nights, then staying 3 nights at Contemporary, then 4 nights at Boardwalk Villas. Total 10 days. So we want 10 day park hoppers (because even when we're at Nick Hotel, we will probably still go to DW).

We also wanted to get the DDP, but were told we couldn't. Is that correct? Why? Is it because we're resort hopping?

Thanks in advance!!

You can only do it for the days you are at a WDW hotel
and if you are DVC and staying on points the Dining plan is only allowed when you but a MYM ticket as well... You would have to buy at least a 1 day MYM ticket to get the dining plan

Note that the dining plan can only be added to room/tickets packages at WDW. You will have to buy some form of ticket as part of your reservation to be able to add it, unless you are either a DVC member or renting points from a DVC member.

You have several things to consider here. You have two separate WDW resort stays, which you will have to book separately. If you buy the 10 day park hoppers when you check into the Contemporary, and intend to use them into the Boardwalk stay, you will have to book the Boardwalk as a room-only reservation. You cannot add DDP to a room-only reservation. You would have to book separate packages, including tickets, at both resorts to get the dining plan. If you buy the tickets only with the Contemporary stay as a package, you can get the dining plan for the 3 nights you stay there, but you can't extend it into the Boardwalk stay.

The ways around that are: 1) book room plus tickets packages at both the Contemporary and the Boardwalk, but you'd have to give up the 10 day park hopper; 2) rent from a DVC member and get the dining plan without requiring a ticket purchase.

I would assume that because your Nick stay precedes your WDW stays, you want to buy the 10 day Disney park hopper before the Nick stay, so you can use it while you are at Nick. If you do this, you will be booking BOTH your WDW reservations as room only and will not be able to add the dining plan to either. The only way to get around this is to use DVC points for booking, because DVC members are not required to buy tickets to get the dining plan.

Thanks for the info!

We've already made our hotel reservations for all 3 places, through AAA. We only wanted the DDP for the 7 days we would be at WDW.

The price of a 10 day park hopper ($225) is significantly less than a 7 day + a 3 day ($219 + $203 = $422) or less than a 3 day + 3 day + 4 day ($203 + $203 + $212 = $618). And yes, we want to get the 10-day park hopper on our first day, which will be at Nick Hotel.

I don't know anything about the DVC. Could I rent points from someone JUST to buy the DDP (and NOT to rent a room)?

I'd agree the dining plan can be a good deal, but no way it's a good enough deal to lay out a bunch of cash on a DVC rental just to buy the plan. You'd be better off spending that money on food.

The only way I can figure to get everything you want is to cancel all the reservations you have made, make a single WDW package reservation at one resort, add 10 day park hopper tickets to that reservation plus the dining plan, and move your Nick stay to the end of the trip. Currently, if you want the 10 day park hopper, you have no other choice but to purchase it separately.

Or, find a DVC member to rent you the points for your WDW stay, cancel your current WDW stays, stay the full 7 days at the DVC resort, add the dining plan, and buy your tickets separately.

Thanks for the information. This was exactly what I wanted to know. I think we will just not get the DDP and keep our current reservations. They were hard enough to get 6 months ago -- could only imagine how hard they would be to get now. (We're going 6/17-6/27).

Thanks again!!!
