Does anybody know if it's possible to reserve AKL or Poly on points, then upgrade to concierge with cash?

(I know the conventional wisdom is that using points outside the DVC is economically inefficient, but I have a good reason for asking this-- thanks)

When we stayed at Disney's Grand Californian, I inquired about a Cash upgrade. It was not to Concierge, but I was give a figure. I do know you will not be able to ask for an upgrade until you chekc-in at the resort. You will not be able to secure one prior to then. (I have also done this on the cruise) Remember everything is based on availability when you check-in

You can book concierge on points now, so no real reason to have to upgrade with cash at check-in.

We have stayed at AKL on points and upgraded with cash. You will have to take a chance that there will be a concierge room available at check in. The AKL concierge is very, very popular so the option to upgrade is not always available. Also, if you are planning on doing the Sunrise Safari you will probably not be able to get a spot if you upgrade at check-in as they are often booked well in advance. We weren't interested in the safari and didn't mind taking a chance on a Concierge room being available. The upgrade cost us $100 per night and we ate every breakfast and many dinners in the lounge. At night time there are only appetizers and such offered so if you have a big appetite that might not be enough for you but we found it more than adequate.

Hope that helps.
